**The Team**

Major Works is the major brownfield construction team at Sydney Trains. Providing Engineering and Maintenance work across the Sydney Trains Network. There are over 1000 staff in the directorate which operate in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary project environment.

**The opportunity**

Right now, we have an RC3 opportunity for an experienced Yard Controller to join our Major Works division team who are responsible for delivering maintenance and renewal of existing infrastructure assets across the Sydney Trains network and enabling and supporting Transport infrastructure investments in the rail network.

The vision for Major Works Division is to become the deliverer of choice for rail infrastructure modernisation projects in Sydney Trains. To achieve this, it is focussed on delivering projects which are commercially competitive and meet the desired timeframes and quality and safety standards.

Reporting to the Work Train Planning Manager, you will be responsible for:

- Liaising with Network Controllers to effect train movements. Report by electronic means to Network Controller all wagon numbers and trainloads (X2010) and inform them when trains are ready to depart in accordance with procedures.
- Direct the shunters or locomotive crew in the performance of their shunting duties to ensure they comply with train operations and safe working procedures.
- Shunting wagons within Chullora Yard, Clyde HPM Sidings and Bombo Quarry Sidings, check that track space is available and that all wagons are placed safely at the terminals in accordance with safe working procedures.
- Carrying out train air brake examinations in accordance with safe working procedures.

**What you will be involved in**
- Complying with workplace practices and procedures in terms of safety while fitting operations into the busy Rail network and accommodating the needs of the clients, such as Sydney Trains staffs, Contractors, and Visitors.
- Perform infrastructure working activities (Protection Officer duties) if required to assist with safe working duties during critical periods.
- Perform wagon inspection and/or maintenance when necessary

**About you**

You will be a proactive and experienced Yard Controller who can demonstrate experience in managing operation of a terminal yard. You will have strong stakeholder management skills enabling you to liaise with a wide variety of stakeholders in this role; you will maintain regular contact with external suppliers of a wide range of engineering services and internally liaising with the Network Controller, Work Train Planning Manager, Work Train Programmer and Possession’s Officer.

This is a shift work 100% on site role, so you will be willing to work evenings/nights/weekends when required.

The essential qualifications and experience for this position are:

- Experience in terminal yard control operations and composition of trains
- Experience in shunting work train wagons or equivalent
- Knowledge of locomotive and rolling stock types, capacity, and restrictions
- Extensive knowledge of working train timetables
- Extensive knowledge of metropolitan track network and rail terminal operations
