**Identified position** - This position is an ‘Identified’ position which signifies that the role has a strong involvement in issues relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. **Who we are**
Australia’s natural and cultural heritage is unique. The Director of National Parks (the Director) is responsible for six national parks, the Australian National Botanic Gardens, 58 Australian Marine Parks and the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Marine Reserve established under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. Parks Australia is the federal park agency that supports the Director, and they are a division of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (the Department). The Parks Support Services Branch delivers corporate and enabling services for the Parks Australia division.
The Customer Experience and Destination Planning Section is responsible for delivering a range of projects across Parks Australia including Media and Communications, Internal Communications, Marketing, Social Media, E-Commerce, and Tourism Policy and Planning.
**The Job**
The Media and Communications Manager leads and manage a small, dynamic team in the delivery of communications projects and programs for Parks Australia including clients within our national parks, botanic gardens, Australian Marine Parks, the Bush Blitz program.
As Media and Communications Manager, you will be a communications all-rounder who provides high-quality advice, briefings and media materials within a fast-paced environment. You will have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. You will lead and drive the direction for all media and external communications at Parks Australia and manage work schedules (sometimes outside of business hours), to meet multiple competing priorities. Working within an integrated team delivering communications, marketing and tourism programs for our iconic destinations, the Media and Communications Manager will also be responsible for promoting our tourism destinations and contributing to marketing and tourism initiatives. Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills are required for this role which involves working with Commonwealth, State and Territory governments and their departments, Traditional Owners, industry groups, tourism businesses and regional/remote communities.

- Demonstrated experience developing, implementing and evaluating a range of communications projects and programs.
**Skills and capabilities**
- Exceptional written and interpersonal communication skills, liaison and negotiation skills and demonstrated ability to influence outcomes with a broad range of stakeholders (internal and external).
- Strong leadership and management capability including experience managing a small team in a fast-paced environment, to deliver desired outcomes.
- Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and achieve results with limited or no supervision; demonstrated judgment in dealing with complex issues; and ability to plan for and manage competing priorities and conflicting requests.
**Mandatory qualifications**
This position requires an employee to hold a media cadetship or a relevant public affairs degree or diplomas or to have extensive work experience, and to use professional public relations and communications skills and abilities.
