An exciting opportunity exists within Research Services for an experienced person with an extensive Veterinary Science background and a strong interest in animal welfare to join our growing team. The position of Animal Welfare Officer will work closely with the Manager, Research Governance and the University’s Animal Ethics Committee to ensure that all research involving animals is held to the highest ethical standards and that all appropriate codes and frameworks are adhered to. The appointment is for 12 months and will be 1/2 day per week which can be worked flexibly as required.

To be successful in this role you will need to be able to provide high quality support to the academic community, Animal Ethics Committee and research governance team with expert advice on animal welfare issues. You will also support the University in maintaining compliance with the Australian Code for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes and other relevant legislation and coordinate monitoring and reporting on research and teaching involving the use of animals.

**The successful applicant will require**:
Qualifications and extensive relevant experience in Veterinary Science with current registration with the Veterinary Practice Board of WA;
Comprehensive knowledge of legislative and regulatory governance relating to animal welfare;
Specialist and technical knowledge and expertise relating to animal welfare and the experimental use of animals in research and teaching in the laboratory and field;
Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

Experience in the development and delivery of training and information sessions would be an advantage

Benefits & Remuneration

This part time (0.1 FTE), ongoing position attracts remuneration of $122,934 - $128,562pa (paid on a pro-rata basis) plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
