Tech Schools are a Victorian Government key initiative in establishing Victoria as the Education State, where all Victorians can access high-quality education and training, regardless of their background, circumstances, or postcode. Tech Schools focus on preparing students for a changing world, strengthening employability skills, and linking the focus of secondary education to growing industries within the region.

In 2017, the Victorian Government committed to establishing 10 Tech Schools across the State. Melbourne Polytechnic hosts two Tech Schools that opened in 2018, the Banyule Nillumbik Tech School (BNTS), located at Greensborough Campus, and the Whittlesea Tech School (WTS), located at Epping Campus.

**About the role**:
The Head of Programs - Tech School, leads the development and delivery of future-focused STEAM and Project-Based Learning programs at the Tech School. The focus of the role is on program development and creating a community of practice, through consultation with partner schools, industry and key stakeholders to deliver leading-edge technology rich programs that supports the advanced education and training that secondary students need to flourish in the rapidly changing global economy. The Tech School is strongly linked to the local and growing industries of Health and Social Assistance, Entrepreneurship, Scientific and Technical Services, Food and Fibre and Advanced Manufacturing.

The Head of Programs - Tech School is responsible for championing excellence in learning, utilising a range of evidence-based pedagogies, promoting innovation in the development of programs, learning resources, and teacher professional learning, to lead to the delivery of cutting-edge, STEAM-based, discovery and innovative learning programs in the Tech School, mapped to Victorian Curriculum.

This position requires a demonstrable understanding of the secondary or tertiary education sector, as well as experience leading a team of educators. Strong organisation and communication skills, and a commitment to innovative learning and a passion for the fields of science, technology, engineering, Arts and mathematics (STEAM) are essential.

This role reports to the Director and plays a key and active part of the leadership team, working to ensure educational excellence, student and stakeholder satisfaction, creating business growth and building and maintaining a motivated, effective, respectful team and working environment.

**Duties**:
**People Leadership**
- Deputise for Director as required.
- Manage staff schedules and resources for all delivery modes of education and community programs.
- Encourage and mentor colleagues to undertake relevant professional development and maintain own professional knowledge at a high standard

**Business Growth**
- Support the Tech School Director by contributing to the strategy development and operations of the Tech School
- Drive the development and implementation of student experience and retention strategies to improve early engagement, satisfaction and success

***Innovation and Continuous Improvement**
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives and methods to ensure improved performance and quality of learner outcomes
- Critically evaluate underperforming areas and implement solutions in consultation with the Director.

**Service Excellence**
- Lead the engagement of school partners and drive integration of Tech School programs in partner school's curriculum.
- Lead the design and development of the Tech School‘s STEAM, project-based and problem-based programs, aligned with the Victorian Curriculum
- Lead the co-design of curriculum programs with partner school teachers and embed into schools

**Skills and experience required**:
**E**ssential**
- Education qualification - Graduate Degree or postgraduate degree (or higher)
- Qualifications / Experience in any of Health, Science, Maths, Engineering, or Technology disciplines
- Registered with VIT or the ability to undertake registration.
