The Cities Research Institute is a unique trans-disciplinary and transformative research facility at Griffith University focussed on cities and communities, and their processes of sustainable and climate-resilient infrastructure and system. It undertakes research on the complex processes of urbanisation to help government, industry and communities in addressing the major policy challenges facing Australian cities in their Asia-Pacific regional context. Our research experts span a wide range of disciplinary fields, from transport and land use planners to civil engineers; systems modellers to environmental scientists, economic and social researchers to coastal engineers; and from geographers to architects.
The Research Fellow will work within the research group of the Director of the Cities Research Institute / Coastal and Marine Research Centre. The Research Fellow will carry out applied research activities with a team of scientists and coastal engineers working on projects which support the development of effective management strategies for coastal environments with a particular focus on the Gold Coast.
This position is required to provide high level technical support of research projects undertaken as part of the project Improving Coastal Erosion Assessment to Support Local Government Operations funded by the Advance Queensland Industry Fellowship and the City of Gold Coast. In particular, the position will deliver applied science and coastal engineering research projects related to the implementation of the Coastal Erosion Risk Assessment Framework and other research activities as directed by the Research Fellow’s supervisor.
- This is a fixed term (two year), full time position and will be primarily based at the Griffith University Gold Coast campus. As Griffith is a multi-campus University you may be required to work across other campus locations._
- Griffith University’s campuses are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples._
**Salary Range**
The full time equivalent base salary will be Research Fellow Grade 1 range $84,830 - $99,367 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $99,251 - $116,259 per annum.

You will also have:
- Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant field or extensive research-oriented experience in field of coastal engineering, coastal management, coastal oceanography or coastal geomorphology and,
- Demonstrated experience in understanding dynamics of shoreline and coastal ocean processes.
- Demonstrated experience in coastal process modelling (eg. XBeach, SWAN, DELFT3D).
- Demonstrated ability to undertake research and project management work under broad direction only and exercise initiative in undertaking responsibilities and work effectively with Chief Investigators.
