In the role of Technical Officer (ITS) you will be responsible for the production of traffic signal software configurations compatible with traffic signal controllers throughout Queensland in accordance with the Manual Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and Austroads. This position will require technical knowledge and expertise for Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) and have direct management and control of the ATMS to deliver efficient traffic flow on state and local government road networks.

**Accountabilities include**:

- Develop and test configuration files for the traffic signal controller in accordance with design drawings and TMR policy guidelines.
- Liaise with external and internal stakeholders to deliver projects in a safe and timely manner.
- Undertaking external and internal activities required to maintain operational efficiency and safety of traffic flow delivered through the ATMS. This includes assistance in coordinating the following factors in a time critical environment;
- Road project managers.
- Road maintenance providers.
- District transport planners.
- Assist in implementing, where directed, timely and effective traffic management solutions on state controlled and local government roads using the departments ATMS, STREAMS.
- Provide technical and operational advice to internal and external stakeholders about signal design and system operation strategies needed to deliver optimised traffic performance across the network. This includes providing input to the policies standards and guidelines developed by the department for this work.
- Monitor and provide input to the performance of traffic flow operational strategies and plans delivered through ATMS. Adjust and modify system parameters, as required to address identified performance deficiencies.

**Mandatory requirements**:

- Valid Queensland 'C' class driver's licence or equivalent.
- A reasonable amount of travel consistent with industry standards will be required throughout the State.
- Advanced Diploma / Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Electrical/Electronics/ Telecommunications/ Mechatronics or Computer Science Language and Programming.

**Highly desirable requirements**:

- Knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas is advantageous:

- Road traffic signalling theory and operation, configuration and testing of traffic signals.
- Understanding of appropriate electrical safety standards and traffic signal controller specifications.
- Traffic Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Mechatronics or Computer Science Language and Programming.
