The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Lead Officer, Health and Safety to lead and coordinate the OH&S and wellbeing function within the SCC and Emergency Management sector.
About the Business Unit
Emergency Management Victoria (EMV) leads emergency management in Victoria by working with government, agencies, and business to strengthen their capacity to withstand, plan for, respond to and recover from emergencies. EMV is a statutory entity and is part of the Department of Justice & Community Safety (the Department). The Department, through the Secretary, employs EMV staff and provides corporate functions to EMV. EMV is led jointly by the Chief Executive (CE) and the Emergency Management Commissioner (EMC).
The Operations Business Unit directly supports the Emergency Management Commissioner's legislated responsibilities regarding emergency management operating procedures and standards, state emergency response planning, and emergency management coordination and operations. This includes the ongoing management and operation of the State and Regional Control Centres and their associated operating systems and processes. It also supports the legislated responsibilities of the EMC.
About the Role
The Lead Officer, Health and Safety is responsible for leading and coordinating the OH&S and wellbeing function within the SCC and EM sector.

**Duties will include**:

- Coordinating effective state-level operational health, safety and wellbeing planning for readiness, emergency coordination and response, and support to relief and recovery processes.
- Providing coordinated strategic health and safety advice, including Safety Alerts.
- Leading daily safety briefing reports to the State Response Controller and the State Control Team.

About you

**To be successful in this role, you will have**:

- Demonstrated ability to provide strategic advice to both peer and executive audiences.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Victoria's emergency management arrangements.
- Previous experience in an Occupational Health and Safety Role.
- Knowledge and understanding of Victoria's emergency management arrangements and policy environment.

**Qualifications**:

- Tertiary level qualifications in an appropriate discipline highly desirable.
- Industry training/qualifications in OHS highly desirable
