**The Location**:
Tasmania provides a quality work/life balance. Here you can pursue what drives you, both professionally and personally. Today, as the rest of the world feels increasingly generic, our different-ness - our Tasmanian-ness - is among our most valuable assets. We invite you to be part of this special place, to quietly pursue the extraordinary, whether it be bushwalking, mountain biking or paddock to plate dining. The rugged and beautiful North West Coast of Tasmania is a tourist mecca, has a strong agricultural sector, a developing innovative industrial sector and is positioned with airports and sea transport so it is very accessible to the rest of Tasmania and the Australian mainland. Air travel from Devonport to Melbourne is less than one hour.

**The Hospital**:
This is Australia’s second oldest hospital opening in 1804, and is a major clinical teaching and research centre working closely with the University of Tasmania and other institutions. The hospital provides acute, sub acute, mental health and aged care inpatient and ambulatory services to a population of about 240,000 people and has 550 physical beds, including 460 acute overnight and 90 day beds.

**The Role**:
Servicing a population of approximately 116,000, the Department of Health - North West, has major sites located approximately 50km apart. The medical services across the North West region of Tasmania are based primarily at the North West and at the Community Hospital. Gastroenterologists provide gastroenterology and Hepatology services across both sites. The community hospital is predominately outpatient and day surgery cases. The two hospitals both have very busy emergency and general medical departments. Both Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Paediatrics are primarily local in the north west region with outpatient services at both sites. Anaesthetic services are provided at both sites. A busy general surgical service is based at both sites. A rehabilitation service is located in a purpose built ward at the community hospital. There are extensive outpatient services for a range of subspecialty services. There is also an eight bed Intensive Care unit. Onsite support services in pathology, imaging and pharmacy are extensive.

This position is also linked with the Holman Centre in Launceston. Provides integrated oncology services to patients who live in North West Tasmania. The North West Private Hospital is co-located with the North West Regional Hospital and this facilitates private practice for many of the region’s specialists.
