Austin Hospital -Food Services is looking to employ a friendly and enthusiastic Menu Monitor seeking a rewarding career to join our busy food services department. Our team works together to provide safe and clinically appropriate nutrition from food, beverages, and specialised nutrition products to hospital patients.

About the department:
The Austin Health Food Services Department is an in-house service which consists of the following two business units:
Patient Food Services: provides patient meals for all Austin Health campus’ as well as providing a patient meals service to Royal Women’s Hospital. Currently the Austin Health Patient Food Services Department is plating approximately 2700 cook/chill meals each day. Food Services has 138 staff.
Medi-Chef is located on the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital (HRH) campus. Med-Chef produces cook/chill (short shelf life and long shelf life) meal components for both Austin Health and other clients. Medi-Chef has twenty-five staff and currently produces 128,000 meals components per week.

About the role:

- Holds a sound knowledge of patient meal ordering systems e.g., Chefmax.
- Assist patients with meal selection as required as per diet codes and to assist with patient meal service enquiries.
- Collect and process patient menu information and production requirements for the Food Services Department in the required allocated period.
- Key interface point with Nursing, Patient Food Services, Nutrition & Dietetics and Speech Pathology staff to ensure patients’ meal selection and nutritional requirements are met as well as with Larder, Short Order, and production requirements.
- Menu monitors are responsible and accountable for all ordering of diet meal requirements.
- To follow all Dietary Guidelines as outlined by Nutrition and Speech Pathologists.
- Investigate menu related issues including fulfilling reporting menu related issues.
- To work across sites
- Ability to work in a team environment and work independently as required.

To be successful in this role:

- Previous experience in Meal Management Systems in Health settings
- Knowledge of Nutrition therefore understanding nutritional requirements/ Diet restrictions.
- Proven experience in menu related problem-solving skills.
- Previous experience working between staff groups at multiple sites.
- Ability to communicate and develop working relationships on all levels.
- Self-motivated and outcome driven with ability to work in and contribute to a team environment.
- Intermediate computer skills e.g., MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, excel.
- Sound level of written and verbal English skills
- Have a caring attitude towards patient needs.
- Ability to prioritize competing patient needs and meal management system requirements.
