Opportunity to join the Advocacy Team within the NSW Small Business Commission to support the Commission’s advocacy of small businesses within government. This position contributes to the assessment and development policy proposals that empower small businesses.

**About the Team**

The Advocacy team is responsible for providing support and advice to the Small Business Commissioner on matters affecting small businesses, as well as representing their interests to other government agencies.

The Commission sits within the Department of Customer Service as an independent agency.

**About Us**

The NSW Small Business Commission is an independent statutory office of the NSW Government. We provide strategic advice, advocacy and affordable dispute resolution services to small businesses across NSW. Our role includes:

- encouraging government agencies and larger businesses to enter productive working relationships with small businesses
- facilitating and encouraging the fair treatment of small businesses
- promoting a fair operating environment in which small businesses can flourish.

As a key advocate for small businesses across in NSW the Commission aims to ensure small business needs are front-of-mind for NSW Government decisions, support and assistance. The Commission also plays an important role in connecting small businesses, councils and industry groups to vital information and support services.

The Small Business Commission has recently joined the Department of Customer Service.

**Your responsibilities will include**
- Undertake research and analysis, reviewing alternatives in relation to policy deliverables, to contribute to the policy process and to inform decision making
- Provide technical policy expertise, which may include one of or both of legal analysis or knowledge of key economic tools and frameworks, to contribute to the delivery of organisational objectives
- Provide a range of project management and support services, including preparation of reports/policy papers, briefs and submissions, to contribute to the development of policy recommendations and delivery of policy initiatives
- Communicate with key stakeholders and coordinate working groups, committee meetings, and stakeholder consultations to support engagement as well as policy development and implementation
- Undertake research and collate information for reporting, monitoring and evaluation purposes to contribute to the achievement of policy outcomes
- Identify and assess emerging and/or contentious issues that impact service delivery and outcomes to support informed decision making and the achievement of objectives
- Provide assistance to small businesses enquiring about government policies and requirements and respond to routine policy queries to ensure the provision of consistent advice and information

**About you**

You will have previous experience in policy or policy-related roles. You will have a foundational knowledge of conceptual frameworks that can be applied when thinking about and assessing policy. You will contribute your previous experience and knowledge to support the development of small business policy. You will be a team player and work collaboratively with others. You have a foundational understanding of the contribution of small business to the community and some of the challenges they face. You will be able to synthesise complex issues.
