**_John Hunter and Belmont Hospitals are looking passionate, driven and innovative Staff Specialist Emergency Physicians to lead the department in the provision of excellent evidence based patient care, support junior medical officers, and nursing staff through education, training and team work._**
- These positions will work across both John Hunter and Belmont Hospitals for the first 12 months
- The hours at John Hunter are temporary for 12 months, the hours at Belmont Hospital are permanent
- Each position comes with 25% clinical support time, to be worked at a respective site to be negotiated

**ABOUT OUR HOSPITALS**:
**John Hunter and Belmont Hospitals** are located on Awabakal land, in beautiful Newcastle, the second largest city in NSW. Home to stunning surf beaches, majestic Lake Macquarie, the world class Hunter Valley - home to fabulous wine and gourmet cuisine. We are two hours drive north of Sydney, with the nearby Newcastle airport offering easy access to all major cities in Australia.

**John Hunter Hospital** is the busiest trauma facility in NSW providing specialist adult and paediatric services across all specialties to over 1 million people across the Hunter Valley, Central Coast, New England and Mid North Coast regions of NSW. Our facility provides 24/7 stroke and cardiac services to the region, with a 28 bed level 6 ECMO capable Intensive Care and separate Paediatric Intensive Care. We see around 90,000 per annum, with unrivalled complexity and breadth of presentations.

Located only 15km away, **Belmont Emergency Department** sees patients of all ages. We see approximately 29,000 attendances per annum with an admission rate of approximately 14%. Patients are admitted to Belmont Hospital with acute general medical, cardiology, or acute general surgical issues. There is a strong representation of aged patients at the Belmont ED however the department serves all age groups with 14-20% of presentations being paediatric.

**John Hunter Emergency Department**:
John Hunter has a diverse, collaborative group of 27 FACEMs, who support ACEM trainees across all stages of training in both adult and paediatric emergency medicine. Our multidisciplinary team includes registrars, CMOs, JMOs, nursing staff, nurse practitioners and primary contact physiotherapists. We have an excellent medical and nursing education team with support for your professional development. Our leadership team are keen to develop new models of care and innovate moving into the new John Hunter Acute Services building in 2025.

**Belmont Hospital Emergency Department**:
Our Emergency Department is staffed with a closely knit group of FACEMs, who work together with the wider emergency nurses and multidisciplinary team to ensure excellent service provision is provided to the Lake Macquarie community.

**Some requirements of the role**:

- A primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA and Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine
- Demonstration of recent and comprehensive experience in Emergency Medicine.
- Ability to provide overnight on call cover for the Emergency Department
- Provide high quality and compassionate care directly to patient in the Emergency Department and other emergency patients as required
- Provide direct supervision and management of the operations of the Emergency Department
- Provide high quality, safe and efficient Emergency Department service in liaison with the ED coordinator
- Provide clinical leadership and direction to medical staff within the Emergency Department, as required by the directors of those services
- Provide support, advice and direction to junior medical staff undergoing professional training at different levels, Nurse Practitioners, medical students and other health professionals as required
- Have a commitment to patient safety
- Ability to communicate at a high level with medical and other health professionals
