**Who are we looking for?**

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow -Anaerobic Bioreactor Specialist/Microbial Ecologist to join School of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Health, Academic Division.

The successful applicant will employ anaerobic bioreactors to study the microbiology of climate-critical anaerobic systems where methane metabolism and cycling is a key feature. Focal research areas will include either 1) modulation of the rumen microbiome to limit methane emissions or 2) the microbiology of methane cycling across permafrost thaw landscapes. The successful applicant will set up mixed consortium long-term bioreactors that simulate environmental conditions of these systems for long-term perturbation studies and hypothesis testing. Key microorganisms will be targeted for enrichment and eventual isolation; allowing for their detailed characterisation.

**What you need to succeed**
- Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to the completion of a PhD in a relevant field (microbiology, process engineering).
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of anaerobic culture and/or the operation of anaerobic bioreactors.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team, along with proven ability to autonomously organise and prioritise tasks and workflow to meet project deadlines.
- High level communication skills, including demonstrated written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to problem solve, logically plan and coordinate research activities, and critically assess existing literature and methods.
