As part of a small team you will play a very important role in the smooth daily running of the clinic. Most people think that being an effective medical receptionist is about looking after patients. That is true, however what is just as important is looking after the GPs and nurses, to allow them to look after the patients. When their clinics run smoothly then the patients can receive gold standard care and that makes everyone very happy. At our practice you will get to know the patients on a first name basis and they will know you too. Sometimes they just pop in to say hello to our two on-site therapy dogs, Dogtor Paddy and Dogtor Orla

**Position responsible to**: Practice Manager or Principal Doctor

**Key responsibilities**:
Your key responsibility is to ensure the smooth running of the GPs' and nurse's daily appointments, in order to allow them to take good care of the patients.
- Schedule appointments accurately
- Liaise with patients and their families in a compassionate, courteous and professional manner, both in person and on the telephone.
- Accurately record and convey messages from patients and other health professionals
- Identify when patients, either in person or on the phone, have critical medical issues and immediately alert the clinical staff
- Correctly handle EFTPOS and other payments and adhere to individual doctors' billing policy
- Process patients' Medicare rebates.
- Scan and file documents
- Participate in ongoing professional development
- Maintain practice dress standards
- Ensure the practice building and rooms are clean, tidy and accessible
- Perform other administrative duties in a timely manner as directed by the Practice Manager or clinical staff
- Complete the opening and closing processes of the clinic independently.
- Provide daily belly rubs to Dogtor Paddy and Dogtor Orla.

**Selection criteria**:

- The ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality and to communicate respectfully and confidently with a range of people
- The desire to contribute to a positive work environment
- Strong computer literacy. Experience with Best Practice clinical software and Microsoft Office 365 is desirable.
- An understanding of Medicare billing is desirable
- The ability to work independently, show initiative and work productively within a team environment
- Feel very confident managing several tasks concurrently
- Previous experience as a receptionist in a general practice setting is desirable
- CPR training undertaken within the past three years or willingness to participate in training
- A current police check
- A current Working with Children Check
- Work rights in Australia or be eligible for such

**Desirable**:

- Healthcare experience
- Best Practice or other medical software

**Job Type**: Part-time

Pay: $27.00 - $32.00 per hour

Expected hours: 32 per week

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
- Afternoon shift
- Morning shift

Supplemental pay types:

- Penalty rates
