**Disability Support Worker - Community-based**

**About the Job**
I’m paralysed from the shoulders down and this job is to assist me with every aspect of my life.

This is a very diverse role with direct personal support and some low-level nursing care with a wide variety of work and social events all being part of the mix.

As an active member of the community, I enjoy music, photography, the outdoors and spending time with my friends.

My Assistive Technology and teaching work with others with a disability it is also important to me.

You would be enabling someone else to do the same things you take for granted; showering, cooking, eating, driving, cleaning, shopping, working and trying to find the nutmeg in the cupboard. ;-)

I’ve been employing direct support staff for over 15 years and have developed good routines and systems that work for me and keep my staff safe. I constantly work with my support staff to fine tune and update the way we work.

**About My Staff**
The most important qualities I look for in my staff are honesty, reliability and a desire to produce high quality work.
Other essential attributes;
- English as a native speaker or to IELTS level 7.5 or better
- A willingness to learn new things.
- Be reasonably fit and healthy.
- Have a good level of manual dexterity.
- Have, at least, basic cooking skills.
- Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) card or be eligible to get one.
- Drivers license (automatic vehicle).
- Your own vehicle, comprehensively insured.
- No smoking please
- Fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including booster if you are eligible.
- Experience as an AIN or Aged Care/Disability Support Worker is necessary. Initial and ongoing training training will be provided. As my needs are so personalized, I need staff who can be flexible with their work hours and help to cover shifts in case of emergency, staff holidays etc.
- A sense of humour helpslife can be too serious without it

**Job Types**: Part-time, Casual
Part-time hours: 10-30 per week

**Salary**: From $41.00 per hour

COVID-19 considerations:
I have had mínimal direct contact with the community at large since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. I take my staff's and my own infection security seriously so as to minimize the chances of infection and I expect the same attitude from staff.

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Weston Creek ACT: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (preferred)

**Education**:

- Certificate I - IV (preferred)

**Experience**:

- Disability or Aged care: 1 year (required)

**Language**:

- English as a native speaker or to IELTS level 7.5 (required)

Shift availability:

- Day Shift (preferred)
- Night Shift (preferred)
- Overnight Shift (preferred)
