**Position Overview**:
The primary responsibility of the Paediatric Registrar is to manage the clinical care under the supervision of senior medical staff including participating in daily ward rounds and attending to patients in order or medical urgency.

You will be responsible for managing medical conditions in accordance to acceptable standards, along with collaborating with other medical staff, nursing staff and multidisciplinary team members to facilitate patient management.

This position will be mainly developmental with participation in some limited on-call (one evening per week, and one weekend shift per month).

The paediatric team includes four Consultant Paediatricians, four Registrars and 5 Resident Medical Officers.

Hospital has four specialty clinical directorates covering: Emergency and Mental Health care; Surgical Services; Intensive Care, General and Geriatric medicine; Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Supporting these directorates, are Allied Health and Community Services and Operational Services directorates. As a public hospital servicing our community, we work closely with our partners to develop contemporary person centred care pathways - with the aim of improving access to services closer to home.

**Key Duties/Responsibilities**:
Clinical Duties:
Responsible for the clinical care of patients under the supervision of senior medical staff including:

- Participating in daily ward rounds and attending to patients in order of medical urgency.
- Taking a full history and medical examination of new admissions and arranging appropriate investigations and assisting with medical procedures as required.
- Managing medical conditions according to acceptable clinical standards under supervision of Senior Registrar’s and Consultant Paediatrician’s.
- Collaborating with other medical staff, nursing staff and multidisciplinary team members to facilitate patient management.
- Communicating with family, outside medical practitioners, and/or community services concerning patient management.
- Participating in the Developmental Service including sessions through outreach clinics throughout the location.
- Participating in general paediatric medical outpatient clinics as the opportunity arises, as negotiated with the Head of Department.
- Document clinical notes throughout each episode of patient care and at the time of discharge to meet medical record standards.
- Manages patients and documents regarding risk management principles.
- Participate in after hours and weekend rosters.
- Administrative Duties
- Participates with data collection and Quality Assurance Program activities.
- Liaises with external agencies and Community Services including Royal Flying Doctor Service, Police, St John Ambulance, etc as required.
- Participate in performance management activities and maintain and update professional knowledge.
- Training Responsibilities
- Monitor your own performance and seek assistance from your senior staff or Consultant if uncertain about any aspect of your clinical work.
- Attend teaching sessions as directed.
- Assist in the teaching of medical students and medical colleagues, as directed.
- Participate in research and clinical audits as required ensuring correct procedures are followed.
- Maintain and update professional knowledge.
- Prepare case presentations for departmental meetings.

**Essential**:

- Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Advanced Trainee Registered with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
- Demonstrated clinical and procedural experience in Paediatrics.
- Demonstrated highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Demonstrated organisational and time management skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to clinical governance within health care.
- Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of Aboriginal Cultural respect framework.

**Desirable**:

- Demonstrated experience as a medical practitioner within the Australian or equivalent health system.
