About the Role

The Manager Modern Slavery Risk is a key role within AGL’s Group Risk Compliance and Insurance team (GRCI). GRCI is responsible for the delivery of a leading enterprise risk, compliance and insurance function that delivers superior results in the dynamic landscape of the Australian energy industry. Through a disciplined and rigorous approach, GRCI supports the broader business to adopt best practice approaches to governance, risk management and compliance.

Reporting to the Senior Manager Group Compliance, Governance & Privacy Officer, the Manager Modern Slavery Risk will play a key role in supporting AGL’s business functions to identify, assess, manage and report on modern slavery related risks present in their operations and supply chains. As part of AGL’s broader commitment to protecting and upholding the human rights of its employees and stakeholders, effective management of the risk of modern slavery is critical to AGL maintaining its social license and delivering on the commitments set out within its Human Rights Policy.

This role will work with business stakeholders across the enterprise to understand and assess AGL’s exposure to modern slavery risk, and to design and implement best practice solutions to ensure this risk is managed effectively. The Manager Modern Slavery Risk will also design and deliver various training and awareness campaigns to ensure stakeholders are aware of AGL’s obligations, and draft AGL’s annual Modern Slavery Statement for Board approval.

On a day-to-day basis, the Manager Modern Slavery Risk will also advise business stakeholders on new projects and contracts, to ensure that modern slavery risk consideration is embedded within these activities.

What you’ll be doing:

- Develop and deliver AGL’s modern slavery program (Program) to ensure AGL maintains a continuous improvement approach to the identification, assessment and management of Modern Slavery risks within its operations and supply chain
- Review, improve and embed AGL’s Modern Slavery Framework and Charter
- Consult with business stakeholders to determine modern slavery initiatives that will form part of the annual Program, having regard to the requirements of the Act and the guidance set out in the _Commonwealth Modern Slavery Act 2018 - Guidance for Reporting Entities _and leading practice
- Provide appropriate oversight over the modern slavery Program, and provide support to the business on the various initiatives that form part of the Program.
- Provide support to business stakeholders on the identification of new and emerging risks of modern slavery in AGL’s operations and supply chain
- Provide the business with practical and pragmatic advice to improve the maturity of Modern Slavery risk management practices
- Undertake work with AGL’s Sustainability team to manage AGL’s ongoing commitment to the ten principles of the United Nations Global Compact, covering the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption
- Prepare periodic reporting on AGL’s progress on its modern slavery program.
- Co-chair monthly cross-enterprise Modern Slavery Working Group meetings.
- Manage and assess key modern slavery compliance indicators put in place to monitor the effectiveness of AGL’s modern slavery risk management practices
- Build strong working relationships with external stakeholders who are actively engaged with human rights and modern slavery related matters (e.g. United Nations Global Compact Network Australia) and where necessary, represent AGL at external human rights related events
- Support business areas in their assessment of the Modern Slavery risk implications of new vendors, new contracts and new business and liaise with AGL’s procurement and legal teams to develop fit for purpose solutions.
- Draft AGL’s annual Modern Slavery Statement in accordance with the requirements of the Act, and manage internal processes for the Statement to be approved by the Board
