**Urban Designer - Healthy Communities**
- Temporary full time up to 3 years, 35 hours per week
- Salary range from $96,294.92 to $104,230.40 per annum, plus 11.5% super
- Work with Campbelltown City Council & South West Sydney Local Health District
The Urban Designer - Healthy Communities position has been co-created between Campbelltown City Council and Population Health South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD).
The role is a great opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary team while learning about high-level local government strategic planning and a systemic approach for promoting health and preventing disease. The Reimagining Campbelltown City Centre Master Plan, along with significant population growth and development underway in the LGA and Western Sydney more broadly, presents new opportunities for Campbelltown to utilise its strengths and assets to evolve long-term benefits for the citizens of the city and region. This position will take advantage of these opportunities to ensure that people’s health and wellbeing are a key focus of strategies and projects for shaping the built environment.
**About the role**:
We are seeking the skills of an urban designer or health related professional who understands the principles of healthy place making and urban planning and how this influences human health. You will play an integral part in delivering Council’s Vision for Campbelltown via developing working partnerships with key stakeholders, in particular SWSLHD Population Health Unit and strategic health planners for the Western Parkland City.
You will need to be expert at championing the relationship between the built environment and health and wellbeing outcomes and bring innovative ideas about integrating healthy design principles into city shaping, city design, planning and policy. As a collaborator, you will be skilled in engaging stakeholders in the co-design of Healthy Streets, planning strategies, policies and projects which enable better health outcomes for the diverse communities in Campbelltown.
**In this position you will**:
- Play an integral part in delivering Council’s vision for Campbelltown via enhancing working partnerships with key stakeholders, in particular South West Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD) Population Health Unit and strategic health planners for the Western Parkland City.
- Champion the relationship between the built environment and health and wellbeing outcomes and integrate health considerations into city shaping, city design, and policy and planning outcomes
- Create healthy and inclusive built environments in new and existing areas, where lifelong health and wellbeing is supported by encouraging people to walk, cycle, be physically active, use public transport and connect with others.
- Work collaboratively to identify key projects from a healthy built environment and community wellbeing perspective and to embed health and wellbeing considerations, objectives and outcomes into key Council
- Build knowledge and understanding to influence Council considerations in population health programs and plans; and facilitate health-focused urban design input into Council strategies, studies, policies and plans.
- Develop innovative proposals and seek new funding sources to bridge the funding gap for built environment related health and wellbeing initiatives within the Campbelltown LGA.
- Tertiary Qualifications in a relevant discipline (Urban Planning, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, Public Health, Social Sciences or related fields).
- Knowledge of the impacts of city shaping, urban planning and urban and place design on community health outcomes.
- Experience in delivering city shaping and design projects with a focus on improving health and
- Well-developed understanding of the relationship between the built environment, urban design, movement networks and health and wellbeing outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain successful strategic partnerships across multiple organisations and internally to deliver well-informed and coordinated outcomes.
