The Department of Biomedical Engineering performs all aspects of medical device management. The Department provides services to all campuses of Austin Health and to the wider community. Workshops are located at Austin Hospital and Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital, and staff perform their roles both in the workshop, and within the clinical setting.

**The Position**
- Carry out the installation, assembly, repair, maintenance and performance testing of medical equipment with a mechanical aspect across Austin Health. Equipment includes:

- Operating Tables
- Gas Therapy Equipment (Air and O2 flowmeters, regulators)
- Suction units
- Endoscopes
- Wheeled equipment, castor repairs
- Patient Hoists, standing machines
- Treatment chairs
- wide variety of other medical equipment
- Varied and interesting role, working with a highly skilled team in a stimulating environment.
- Exposure to a wide range of medical equipment, used in a public tertiary level hospital.
- Opportunity to combine mechanical technical skills with health.
- Workshop based.
- Requirement to diagnose and rectify faults
- at the patient’s bedside,
- within the intensive care unit
- within the operating theatres where theatre gowns must be worn.
- Liaison with nursing and medical staff will be necessary as part of delivering the biomedical service.
- Full time, permanent position.

**The Person**:

- Will have a proven interest in pursuing a career in a technical maintenance environment.
- Experience in equipment repair and fault finding essential, with a high degree of mechanical attributes.
- Will be adaptable, resourceful, and have proven skills in diagnosing and troubleshooting technical issues, to medium complexity equipment.
- Be competent with hands-on trade skills, repairing and maintaining equipment. Skilled with the use of handtools, angle grinders, drills etc where machine shop skills required. Machining ability with Lathe and Milling machine.
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills are essential.
- Have a mechanical fitting trade qualification and 5 years post apprenticeship experience, or 2 year diploma and experience.
- Proven ability to work well in a team environment.
- Driver’s license for Australia required.
- Minimum 2 years experience within a hospital environment or other biomedical establishment essential.

**Remuneration**:

- Allied Health Professionals Services Enterprise Agreement: Technical Officer Grade 2 or Grade3. Grade and year level commensurate with experience.
- As per Award: $67k to $88k, + salary packaging available to boost income.
