**The opportunity**:
We are seeking 2 cardiologists to join the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute as PhD fellows. Applicants must meet eligibility criteria for enrolment into a doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) by research. The PhD project themes will be heart failure (heart failure with preserved ejection fraction and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction) and cardiac energetics in cardiovascular disease and diabetes. We aim to train future leaders in cardiac MRI research.

Primary supervision will be by world experts in cardiac MRI Professor John Greenwood (Director, Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute) and Professor Eylem Levelt (Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute, University of Melbourne). Dr Sarah Gutman, Head of Cardiovascular MRI at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute, and Transplantation and Imaging Cardiologist at the Alfred Hospital will co-supervise.

This supervisory team have supervised/co-supervised to completion near 40 MD/PhD students, have published extensively in leading peer reviewed journals (_NEJM_, _Lancet_, _JAMA_, _Circulation_, _JACC_ and _EHJ_) and received prestigious awards at International conferences including American Heart Association Scientific Meetings, SCMR, BCS.

**Skills and experience**:
You will have:

- Medical registration as well as at least 3 years of advanced training in cardiology.
- A desire to learn rigorous research techniques and begin a career in academic cardiology.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills, including the ability and flexibility to multi-task and coordinate several complex research projects at the same time, working with constantly changing deadlines and priorities, without compromising close attention to detail and accuracy.
- A high level of interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of people at a variety of levels internal and external to the Baker Institute.
- Demonstrated ability to be a proactive team member and contribute to team development and work effectively in an interdisciplinary team.
