**The opportunity we have available**

The Assistant Director - Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (Networks and Internal Engagement) is a new position, and is part of the recently created Diversity, Equity and Inclusion team. The establishment of this dedicated team and role reflects the department’s commitment to supporting our staff with diverse backgrounds and abilities in the workplace. This role reports to the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Director and works closely with the Assistant Director - DEI Strategy and Projects and Assistant Director - Indigenous Liaison to deliver positive outcomes for the department and our people.

The successful applicant will:

- Lead a team of four liaison officers who support the following staff-led diversity networks:

- Gender Equality Network
- Disability, Neurodiversity and Allies Network
- Cultural and Linguistic Diversity Network
- Pride and Allies Network
- Provide leadership to embed a culture of DEI into the department’s work.
- Take a client approach to provide support and advice to departmental employees including problem-solving issues as they arise.
- Manage relationships with internal stakeholders and staff to achieve strategic objectives, which can often involve liaising with stakeholders on complex or sensitive issues.
- Support internal stakeholders to analyse, research and make decisions on a range of complex diversity, equity and inclusion issues.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external organisations, providers and other Australian Public Service agencies.
- Manage and contribute to the development of initiatives that increases the representation and involvement for all diversity types.
- Provide secretariat support to the department’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, including coordinating meetings.
- Monitor and report on progress against diversity targets and key deliverables.
- Be accountable for developing plans and objectives that contribute to the strategic planning initiatives of the department.
- Identify external trends and recognise best practice that will increase DEI literacy and capability of the department.

This role will not provide support and advice in lieu of Workplace Health and Safety practitioners, health care professionals or other specialist functions, and will be required to work with Workplace Respect Officers to refer individuals to internal or external services as appropriate.
