Horse Trainer/breeding

Yulong Stud, one of the leading Thoroughbred horse breeding operations in Victoria, based in Nagambie, is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Foaling Manager.

Reporting to the Stud Farm Manager, the successful applicant will be responsible for, but not limited to, the care, management and training of all pre and post foaling mares and newborn foals, at Yulong Stud. It is an extremely rewarding job, however during the foaling season the hours may be long as mares will often choose to foal at very anti-social hours.

To be successful in this role you will need to have:

- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of broodmare management and horse training and handling skills including foaling, sales and breeding.
- Demonstrated experience in the foaling process and experience working with problem foalings.
- Experience in the care and management of newborn foals, training and educating young horses.
- Ability to change bandages and maintain progress notes to communicate with treating Veterinarians.
- Ability to administer medications (intravenous and intramuscular injections, oral medications, fluid therapy) to all stock under veterinary care.
- Knowledge of, and experience in, safe operation of all equipment and use of personal protective equipment.
- Ability to manage a small team of staff, including training new staff.
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to work within a team environment
- Ability to liaise with management and fellow workers.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated attention to detail.
- Willingness to work unsocial hours during foaling season.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.

To be considered for this position, you must have a Certificate III or equivalent international qualification and at least 2 years of experience in a similar role, being responsible for more than 100 mares due to foal down. It would also be preferable if you have experience foaling down in both hemispheres. You must also have experience handling and assisting in the preparation of the yearlings for sale.
