**About the Role**
This is an exciting opportunity to undertake research at the science-policy interface, working with Professor Emily Nicholson, the Melbourne Biodiversity Institute, and partners at IUCN, NGO’s and governments across the world. The IUCN Red List of Ecosystems is a headline indicator for monitoring progress of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, and supporting its implementation.

You will work to improve methods and knowledge to facilitate rapid increases in the number of ecosystems and countries assessed globally using the Red List of ecosystems framework. You will proactively undertake high quality research and contribute to knowledge, focusing on new approaches and practical tools for integrating national and global data on ecosystems.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Collaborating and communicating to diverse audiences, including NGO, government and private sector collaborators
- Identifying, integrating and analysing a wide range of datasets at multiple scales, and assess their quality, relevance and reliability for ecosystem reporting
- Leading and contributing to and publishing high quality academic papers, and prepare research grant proposals
- Actively participating in research seminars and conferences to disseminate research findings as opportunities arise
- Contributing to, or presenting research to the public to elevate public awareness of educational and scientific developments and promote critical enquiry and public debate within the community where appropriate

**Who We Are Looking For**
You have both demonstrate experience and skills in the coordination of data collation, processing, handling and analysis using quantitative techniques (such as statistical or process modelling of ecosystems and/or species), and/or spatial modelling skills, in R, Python, ArcGIS, Google Earth Engine or QGIS). You will also have completed a PhD in ecology, conservation or environmental sciences or a related discipline

You will also have:

- An aptitude for research and ability to plan, conduct and publish high-quality research in biodiversity conservation, in particular ecosystem conservation science and biodiversity assessments
- Demonstrated ability to prepare scientific papers and research reports for publication, with a sound publication record, commensurate with experience and opportunities.
- Experience in assisting with supervision of students undertaking undergraduate or higher degree research projects
- Demonstrated excellent organisational skills to meet deadlines and bring projects to a timely completion, and ability to develop, administer and see through to completion appropriately designed research projects with limited supervision
