**The Role**
Defence Finance Group (DFG) leads financial management across Defence, delivering financial oversight, strategies, management and assistance to achieve Defence’s outcomes.

You will be a part of a team of professionals delivering accurate, timely and high quality financial analysis and advice. You will have diverse experience and skills in disciplines including policy analysis and advice. As an Executive Level 1 Assistant Director in the Unapproved Capability Program Directorate you will operate within a dynamic environment and be exposed to a range of Defence Capability projects.

You will support the department in undertaking analysis and shaping advice for senior leaders on financial options, risk and implications of Capability proposals. You will also have engagement with central agency stakeholders including the Departments of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Finance and the Treasury.

You will lead a team which supports the department to financially achieve its substantial capability plan and be engaged in their major updates - such as decisions arising from the Defence Strategic Review, or previous Force Structure Plan.
You will be an emerging leader who is committed to helping senior leaders and stakeholders deliver outcomes through your strategic advice and the provision of accurate, timely and high quality financial information. You will have sound experience leading and developing a team, and have a naturally influential communication style.

You will translate financial information and strategy into business outcomes and create a shared sense of purpose. You are a skilled planner who takes a strategic outlook when aligning team activities to organisational goals and your stakeholder’s objectives.

**About our Team**
Our team operates in a fast paced and dynamic environment. We support Defence and Government making critical financial decisions on the future of Defence capability investment by providing Defence senior leadership with trusted independent financial advice and assurance on the Integrated Investment Program.

The Integrated Investment Program invests approximately $43 billion a year into complex projects and its finances require close management to meet public expectations. Information you provide will be used to support decisions of national significance, and help shape major national operations and initiatives. This is achieved by the team providing:

- Financial advice to the Chief Finance Officer and Senior Officials on Cabinet and Ministerial submissions - in the context of the individual submission and the department’s financial position.
- Critical financial support to major capability/budget activities including the Force Structure Plan, Defence Structure Review, Defence Capability Assessment Plan and bi-annual reviews of the Integrated Investment Program.
- Management of the Integrated Investment Program’s financial system data, data quality controls and budget management improvements.
- Responses to Integrated Investment Program audits of financial management.
- The monthly reporting of Defence’s Integrated Investment Program capability plan internally of Defence and to external Government Agency stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and produce high quality outcomes in a fast paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication, with an ability to influence across a broad range of stakeholders. This includes researching alternative positions and presenting options effectively and persuasively.
- Problem-solving abilities of complex information - which is based on a questioning mind and an ability to think laterally.
- Improvement focus, strong results orientation and seeks to add value through improving processes and systems.
