The AGO works across diverse intelligence issues and matters of national significance, enabling military operations, delivering Defence capability and contributing to the achievement of national security outcomes.

You will engage broadly to understand compliance issues and deliver the services and training to ensure the organisation’s strong compliance record. You will enable the critical relationship between policy, intelligence and operations that informs senior leadership and decision makers.

As an AGO Compliance Officer Team lead, you will also:

- drive improvements and provide accurate, evidence-based and timely compliance and policy advice;

- develop and facilitate training, and proactively engage with stakeholders to provide tailored compliance guidance, policy and resources; and
- provide management of, and leadership to the team through mentoring and training new team members, delegating tasking appropriately and identifying and removing road blocks to team progression.

This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. For further information, please contact the contact officer.

**About our Team**
Our people make a vital contribution to protect the lives and safety of Australians at home and overseas by providing GEOINT to decision-makers at all levels. You would be working in a unique, challenging and dynamic environment. We are a people-centric team with a clear purpose to enable AGO’s core business and priorities.

We work effectively across AGO, Defence and the broader Australian Public Service to ensure AGO can continue to deliver geospatial-intelligence in support of Australia’s national interest. The core role of the Compliance team is to ensure AGO is compliant with its governing legislation, particularly the Intelligence Services Act 2001 (ISA).

The team:

- coordinates AGO’s ministerial authorisation submissions and Director AGO approvals, including engagement and coordination across multiple teams in AGO, Defence and the NIC;
- manages AGO’s relationship with the Office of the Inspector-General of Intelligence and Security (IGIS), supporting regular inspections and all engagement, including meetings between Director AGO and the Inspector-General;
- manages breaches of the ISA and all associated reporting;
- works closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that AGO’s compliance policies and guidance can evolve with our evolving business; and
- provides assurance to Director AGO of AGO's compliance processes.
- exercise strong strategic judgment to provide expert and timely advice to other areas of AGO and senior-decision makers;
- effectively build and sustain strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders;
- have strong written and verbal communication skills;
- have experience managing small teams and supporting staff development; and
- be able to work effectively in a dynamic environment.

Experience working in the National Intelligence Community or compliance-related roles, or having an understanding of geospatial intelligence is highly preferred but not mandatory. Relevant training can be provided on the job.
