- ABOUT THE ROLE- The Salvation Army’s spiritual mission is based on the mandate of Scripture and demonstrated through valued relationships with practical help for people. As the chaplain you are committed to expressing concern and care for the whole person.- You will personally passionate about:
- Providing spiritual and pastoral support to staff and clients
- Work with staff to provide appropriate referral pathways and facilitate progress in the faith pathways of clients
- Be sensitive to the spiritual needs of clients and staff, respectful of different spiritual/theological beliefs- The role comes a vehicle as part of the package.- The daily in the life as the chaplain can look like attending a breakfast two mornings each week at 7:30am at Towards Independance, (homelessness) provide a weekly chapel service, attend staff meetings at various sites attending a weekly music practice, supporting homelessness clients and staff at the outreach Cafe at Adelaide congress Hall, facilitating Positive Lifestyle Program / Spiritual Awareness classes in either a group or individual setting as well as following up with tenants from Salvo Housing at local coffee shops etc close to their particular location.- THE ROLE YOU COULD PLAY- Provides spiritual and pastoral care, encouraging people to explore their spirituality and move forward in their personal faith journey. This includes one-on-one pastoral or spiritual conversations and groupwork.
- Collaborates with the local corps and mission expression personnel to create faith pathways. This will include opportunities to connect to a local corps or other faith communities
- Provides a pastoral response, in conjunction with specialist formal debriefing, to those impacted by critical incidents
- Conducts and facilitates Christian ceremonies and services as required according to the rites of The Salvation Army
- Ensure staff and management understand that a sacred space is provided for the holistic, spiritual and religious needs of residents, clients and staff
- Establish and maintain productive links as required with other faith expressions to support people transitioning into other faith communities external to AOD and housing services
- Chaplains assist staff and management or other stakeholders in understanding The Salvation Army theology, mission, and culture, ensuring that a sacred space is provided for the holistic, spiritual, and religious needs of those the chaplain cares for
- Where applicable, as a professional spiritual practitioner and member of senior staff team, the chaplain attends and contributes to all management meetings and actively engages in recruitment and induction processes of staff
- Arranges and conducts faith-based ceremonies and religious practices according to the rites of The Salvation Army
- WHAT YOU WILL BRING- Understanding of and commitment to the mission and values of The Salvation Army and previous or current chaplaincy experience or relevant experience in a similar position.
- Diploma of Chaplaincy (willingness to obtain)
- Training in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)
- Theological studies
- Valid and current driver’s license
- Working With Children Check
- National police record check
