Newcastle, Australia AGE Full time

Advance your career with Australia's most respected team of specialist groundwater consultants
- Benefit from decades of research and development that underpin our robust modelling approach
- Supportive, knowledge sharing culture and a strong Employee Value Proposition

**The Role**

We are seeking a full-time experienced Hydrogeologist - Groundwater Modeller to join our Newcastle team. We are keen to work with Modellers who have a level of professional capability commensurate with a person who has a minimum of 3-5 years of consulting experience.

Dive into a variety of exciting projects, from assessing how resource ventures and renewable energy initiatives impact groundwater systems to exploring the intersection of groundwater with ecology, especially in groundwater dependent ecosystems (GDEs).

This is a Senior Project to Senior Consultant position, collaborating with the largest and most respected team of specialist groundwater environmental consultants in Australia. Benefiting from our decades of research and development that underpin our robust modelling approaches, you'll tackle modelling assignments, manage projects, optionally assist with the delivery and coordination of field work and expand your skills in a supportive environment. We're excited to share our wealth of knowledge with you.

**About You**

You will be a proficient Groundwater Modeller with a thirst to continuously advance and develop your skills and capability. We welcome applicants from all corners of Australia. A bachelor's degree (or higher) in geology, hydrogeology, environmental, or civil engineering and project management experience are must-haves. Familiarity with MODFLOW-USG is important, and exposure to open pit mining, underground operations, or coal seam gas will be a strong advantage. You'll need to balance the big-picture objectives of models with a keen eye for detail when it comes to data and analysis. Field experience, and a willingness to assist with field work on occasion is desirable, but not essential.

**About Us**

At Australasian Groundwater and Environmental Consultants (AGE), we empower informed water decisions for industry, government, and communities. Having recently celebrated 25 years in groundwater consultancy, we proudly employ the largest team of groundwater consulting specialists in Australia with over 35 geoscience professionals across our Brisbane, Perth, Newcastle, and Townsville offices. We consult to mining and CSG sectors, infrastructure projects, water supply projects, and renewable energy projects in Australia and across the world.

We share information openly and deliberately and we will teach our methods to you, so you can adopt, and continue in the development of Python scripts and/or FORTRAN code to interact with a 3D model. We specialise in the use of the MODFLOW code, and its many variants. Our groundwater models are typically custom-made, using in-house code to build, run and process simulations. We favour the use of Voronoi mesh design and layer pinching that MODFLOW-USG offers to optimise model run times, allowing us to speed up the modelling process. With automated optimisation software such as PEST to assist in the calibration of our models, we have our own high-performance computing cluster that speeds up the calibration process allowing many models to run simultaneously.

If you are excited by what you are reading, and you want to be part of this challenging and rewarding cutting edge work, come and join our team.

**Why Join AGE?**

Our team enjoys a very comprehensive and attractive Employee Value Proposition (EVP), in addition to competitive salaries, including but not limited to:
- Leadership Development Program;
- Flexible work arrangements for all team members;
- Professional memberships;
- Purchase of additional leave;
- Paid parental leave;
- Professional development opportunities;
- Four RDOs per year (we call this our “Tools Down Day”);
- Employee Assistance Program (EAP) - a confidential professional counselling service for employees and immediate family;
- Flu vaccinations and annual skin checks; and
- An annual health and well-being allowance.

As processes and technologies evolve, you will have access to industry best practices and training opportunities (internal and external) including learning new software tools and attending workshops) to support your professional growth.
