**The Role**
ALS Geochemistry has an Instrument Technician opportunity available in the Spectroscopy department, as a result of internal career progression. The successful applicant will work in the combined ICP-AES/ICP-MS section of the laboratory. This position is Day Shift - 6am - 2.15pm Monday to Friday.

**The day to day**
Responsibilities include:

- Responsible for ensuring all ICP instruments are operating at full capacity and minimising preventable downtime due to technical issues
- Technical capability in terms of troubleshooting, routine optimisation of the instrument and implementation of innovations
- Preparing calibration solutions for sample analysis
- Checking and reporting of results
- Prioritising daily workloads, performing instrument performance tests, maintaining documentation
- Providing guidance to technical staff
- Communicating effectively with staff across multiple shifts
- Ensuring all activities are conducted in accordance with the Quality Procedures Manual

**The essentials**
- At least 2-3 years’ commercial laboratory experience, ideally operating ICP instrumentation, but not required
- Successful completion of a chemistry degree desirable but not essential
- A working knowledge of sample preparation techniques, solution preparation and wet chemistry.
