**Aboriginal Liaison Officer -Youth Justice Victoria**
- YJW2 role earning $73,842- $84,917 per year plus super
- Provide individualised support to Aboriginal young people in custody
- Help develop culturally appropriate plans for rehabilitation

Make a difference in your community by supporting Aboriginal young people in custody. By working with them to deliver culturally appropriate programs for successful rehabilitation, you can help these young people to make remarkable changes in their lives.

Youth Justice Custodial Services aim to engage children and young people in change by addressing their offending behaviour and equipping them with the skills required for positive community participation.

Victoria has three custodial precincts that cater to their needs by offering innovative services aimed at reducing reoffending: Parkville Youth Justice Centre, Malmsbury Youth Justice Centre, and Cherry Creek Youth Justice Facility.

**The opportunity**:
Working across all three precincts, you will be responsible for actively engaging Aboriginal young people in custody.

As the Aboriginal Liaison Officer you will contribute towards developing culturally appropriate individualised plans that provide culturally specific support to them, their families and their community. You will also identify risks that may contribute to re-offending and work towards minimising and managing these risks.

These efforts will aim to identify strengths, aspirations, and obtainable goals, to enable a return to a non-offending lifestyle in the community. The role will also involve developing effective relationships with a range of Elders, community and professional groups, as well as providing secondary consultation to internal and external staff.

**To be successful in this role**, you will understand the Aboriginal community, society and culture and the issues impacting on them. You will also have the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Aboriginal community.

A sound knowledge of evidence-based interventions for Aboriginal children and young people is required and you will be able to provide tailored assistance such as mentoring, motivating, advocacy and skills development.

The Aboriginal Liaison Officer role requires participation on a weekly rotating standby/on-call roster and any other reasonable additional tasks required by the Team Leader, Aboriginal Liaison Officer.

**_ How to apply:_**

**Applications close**: 7th June 2023

**Building better futures**

Young people can work on getting their lives back on track. Their efforts are supported by programs and services backed by world-leading research on rehabilitation. We want young people to return home with the confidence that they can thrive in their own communities
