**About the team**:
The Property and Protective Security Branch is a key enabler for the Department of Industry, Science and Resources (DISR). The branch supports the department’s mission by providing staff with a safe, resilient and productive work environment.

Part of the branch remit is the provision and development of protective security services, policy, education and governance, for the protection of the department’s people, information and property assets.

**The opportunity**

We have an APS level 5, ongoing or non-ongoing Personnel Security Officer position within the DISR Personnel Security team in Canberra. The role requires the provision of high-quality administration as part of the Personnel security team, who manage the department’s pre-employment suitability assessments and security clearance requirements.
- Strong written, oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and an ability to show good judgement, think strategically and logically.
- Demonstrated understanding of risk management.
- Demonstrated understanding of Personnel Security, including the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to plan and organise work and produce high quality results.
- Flexibility to manage a diverse workload and competing priorities, in a busy team environment, and achieve results.
- The ability to build and maintain productive working relationships, including with colleagues, customers and stakeholders at all levels.
- A professional approach and high level of confidentiality.

Pre-employment screening and/or security clearance vetting experience would be highly desirable.

**What you will do**:
Working with a small team, you can expect to be involved with a variety of tasks including:

- Conduct pre-employment suitability assessments, including the preparation of complex case decisions.
- Submit security clearance requests to the AGSVA for initial, upgrade, and revalidations.
- Prepare temporary access and eligibility suitability paperwork for delegate approval.
- Provide support and advice to a range of stakeholders both internal and external on matters relating to security clearance requirements.
- Provide operational protective and personnel security advice as required.
- Positively influence DISR’s security culture.
- Assist with other support duties as necessary.

**Eligibility**:
A merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies within 18 months from the date the vacancy was first advertised in the Gazette_. _
