Visy is powering the circular economy, closing the loop between packaging, remanufacturing and recycling. As Australia’s leading recycled and kraft paper manufacturer, Visy Pulp and Paper is a big part of our business. Our integrated recycling and manufacturing operations means we collect paper and cardboard from households and businesses and turn it into up to 100% recycled paper. With our CoGeneration Plant in Melbourne, we reduce our carbon footprint by diverting materials from landfill and generating process steam and electricity for our 100% recycled paper manufacturing plants on site.
**Role Details**
**What you'll do**
- **Compliance Management**: Ensure the plant’s adherence to our Government’s environmental, health, and safety regulations. Prepare and submit necessary reports to regulatory bodies.
- **Safety Protocols and Procedures**: Develop, implement, and oversee health and safety protocols to minimize accidents, injuries, and hazardous incidents. Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments.
- **Environmental Monitoring**: Monitor emissions, water usage, and waste management processes to ensure compliance with environmental standards. Recommend improvements to reduce environmental impact.
- **Training and Awareness**: Lead safety training programs for employees, including emergency response, personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, and safe handling of materials.
- **Incident Investigation**: Investigate any environmental or safety incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions. Maintain detailed records of incidents and responses.
- **Risk Assessment**: Conduct regular audits and assessments of equipment, facilities, and operational processes to identify and mitigate environmental and safety risks.
- **Continuous Improvement**: Identify and propose strategies for improving the plant’s safety and environmental performance, staying updated on best practices in cogeneration and energy production.
**What You Will Bring**
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in an environmental or safety role, ideally within the energy sector or a cogeneration plant.
- Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH) and/or Environmental Compliance (e.g., ISO 14001) is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and safety practices relevant to cogeneration plants.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Effective communication skills to train and educate staff on safety and environmental protocols.
- Proficient in MS Office and relevant safety and compliance software.
