**Your Opportunity**:
The advertised role of Science Technician is envisaged to commence in Semester 2 2023, however an earlier commencement date may be negotiated if possible. Your science-based strengths will assist you to work cohesively in a dynamic team focused on providing gifted STEM students access to diverse and stimulating practical laboratory experiences. As a member of a high performing staff team, you will be integral in bringing your positive disposition, solutions seeking nature and creative thinking to our school community to contribute to the effective and efficient delivery of a high-level science curriculum. Your enthusiasm and passion for cutting edge science and associated WHS guidelines will be integral in this role. Your ability to think and plan creatively and work both autonomously and within a team will be crucial. Your enthusiasm to explore new possibilities, ensure compliance of mandated chemical management procedures and maintain associated databases will ensure your success in this role. You will be warmly supported at all times in a culture of staff wellbeing and inclusion.
**About the Role**:
Your responsibilities within this role will include, but are not limited to:
- Proven ability to work safely both independently and cooperatively with existing Science Technician and other educators to maintain and develop maintenance procedures for chemical management, science equipment, and other registers as required including labelling, secure storage, calibration and control of equipment and apparatus, and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Provide and promote quality advice to science teaching staff on their requirements for practical work particularly in relation to compliance with chemical management regulations including preparation of equipment and chemicals. Adhere to all WHS legislation and provision of safety advice and recommendations to supervisors as appropriate.
- Prepare, distribute and set up samples/demonstrations, class sets of equipment and associated scientific materials for practical teaching laboratory use as above. Maintain all resources, preparation and investigative spaces, classrooms, storerooms and laboratories in a clean, safe, orderly and secure manner.
- Safely prepare chemical solutions of known concentration from bulk supplies including concentrated acids, stains and media and coordinate glassware/scientific equipment as required.
When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.
This is a TO2 progression position as per the Role Description. The successful applicant will be appointed to the TO2 classification with eligibility for progression to the TO3 once specific criteria have been met or demonstrated. Please note salary rate shown is reflective of TO2 to TO3 classification range.
