**About the Clinical Ethics and Decision Support Unit**

Ethical decision making is integral to the delivery of high-quality and appropriate patient
- centred care. Over the past few decades, there has been an increased recognition internationally of the importance of establishing formal clinical ethics frameworks and mechanisms in healthcare institutions. The Clinical Ethics and Decision Support Unit (CEADS) was established at Austin Health in December 2020, and is a leading clinical ethics service in adult healthcare in Australia. CEADS is jointly funded by Austin Health and the University of Melbourne Department of Surgery.
