Established in 1986, NDARC at UNSW Sydney is Australia's leading research group in the alcohol and other drugs sector. Highly regarded both here and overseas, NDARC generates evidence to address alcohol and other drug use and related harms.

The National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) are seeking a Casual Research Assistant to provide technical and research assistance on a range of systematic reviews and data analysis projects, including:

- assistance on a research project that uses prescription dispensing record data linked with other administrative health records to examine the timing of non-fatal opioid overdose risk following use of acute health services;
- assistance with a global review of injecting drug use and harms among people who are incarcerated;
- assisting with project coordination and surveys of people who use illicit drugs, including people who are opioid dependent;
- assistance with a rapid review of interventions to reduce drug and alcohol harms among older people;
- assistance with a systematic review examining mental health and substance use among people who are trans and gender diverse;
- assistance with a systematic review of the potential impacts of substance use upon the families of people who use illicit drugs;
- assistance with a global review of opioid agonist treatment guidelines and clinical practice
- reviewing data on the epidemiology of illicit drug use;
- reviewing the quality of evidence about potential harms related to illicit drugs;
- reviewing evidence for the effectiveness of interventions to prevent, reduce and treat harms related to illicit drug use in a range of settings, including prisons;
- reviewing evidence on the coverage of interventions that we know effectively address potential harms.

**Accountabilities**

Specific accountabilities for this role include:

- Attend research meetings and take minutes.
- Complete literature searches using electronic databases.
- Respond to routine enquiries relating to the research project, as requested by the supervisor.
- Liaise with various organisations, data custodians, stakeholders and collaborators, as required.
- Maintain project documentation, research databases, and records.
- Perform data cleaning/basic data analyses and ensure research integrity in research databases.
- Align with and actively demonstrate the UNSW Values in Action: Our Behaviours and the UNSW Code of Conduct.
- Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.

**About the successful applicant (Selection Criteria)**
- Strong organisational and project management skills, including the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated experience working within a team and liaising with other agencies and professionals.
- Excellent communication skills including the ability to contribute to research outputs and reports for diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated experience in data management and fundamental statistical analyses, including use of SAS or similar data analysis packages.
- Commitment to integrity and sensitivity in interacting with marginalised or at-risk populations and about sensitive issues, including in complying with ethical, legal, and policy requirements.
- Degree in epidemiology, social/behavioural sciences, applied statistics or equivalent.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training
