**About the Scholarship**
A three-year fulltime (indexed) PhD scholarship is available for doctoral studies exploring areas of translational science, innovation management and innovation practices to help address societal needs. The PhD program, furthering our existing research and capability, seeks to study practices and methodologies across different disciplines that impact innovation at individual, organisational and cross-organisational levels. This PhD programme is conducted in partnership between Design Factory Melbourne at Swinburne University of Technology and nandin Innovation Centre at Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO).

**Project Description**:
This scholarship is funded to investigate innovation from either one of or a mix of the following areas:
1. Innovation processes. PhD Topic examples include:
b. End to end user experience, for Social/ cultural acceptance for diffusion of innovation purposes

c. Industry engaged projects such as generator programmes

d. Human-Centred Design (HCD) and Knowledge Transference (KT)

2. Innovation mindset. PhD topic examples include:
a. Design for science knowledge diffusion

b. Design for Indigenous science

c. Design collaboration behaviour for innovation

3. Innovation community and culture. PhD topic examples include:
a. People talent & Responsible innovator

b. Innovation Ecosystem for deep tech translation

c. Value and Impact of innovation

d. Deep tech and social innovation, social good

4. Innovative space and environment. PhD topic examples include:
a. Impact of space and environment on innovation mindsets, processes, teams, and culture

b. Designing physical and digital spaces for innovation practices

c. Designing artefact and spatial affordances for motivating innovative mindsets

**About you**

By being part of this program, you will collaborate with researchers and professionals working at the boundaries of science and technology across disciplines and sectors to help address our society’s complex challenges, like the accelerated development of digital technologies and the global warming crisis. Connection to the industry will also be crucial to achieving this impact. By researching early-stage innovation processes and open innovation, we want to improve links between research and industry to facilitate technology development and implementation.

We are looking for people with experience in methodologies and practices for topics related to:

- Multidisciplinary research for innovation
- Skills development and education for innovation in science and technology commercialisation
- Disruption of new markets through innovation practices
- Dissemination and communication of innovations (proof-of-concept prototypes and technology demonstrations)
- Tools and methods for ethical science and technology development
- Management and commercialisation of technology

Swinburne Design Factory Melbourne (SDFM) and the Design Factory Global Network (40 global

innovation labs) shared practices and methodology includes Industry-university collaboration as a

key driver for authentic experiential education and a catalyst to enhance translation of research to society in diverse disciplines, sectors, and societal contexts.

Since 2011, Swinburne DFM has completed 100+ projects, with 80+ national and international industry partners, creating interdisciplinary, applied design experiments that provides innovation R&D for industry, authentic learning for students and new opportunities for research impact.
