PD - Biodiversity Officer - May 2024

**Position Description - Biodiversity Officer
**Purpose**

The Biodiversity Officer will support the Coordinator Biodiversity in the successful delivery of
numerous actions outlined in the Biodiversity Plan 2024-2029. Critical to the role, you will
helping maintain and improve our native vegetation.

The primary objective of this position is to deliver key services relating to biodiversity and open
space assets, working closely with the Open Space Operations teams, key internal and
external stakeholders, and community members.

Strong communication skills and an ability to maintain solid relationships with internal and
external stakeholders will be vital to this role.
As an ongoing commitment to the organisation you are responsible for delivering the best
service to our community and to improve residents’ quality life; continuously, smartly and
efficiently in the scope of your daily work.

**Key Outcomes**
- Undertake strategic operations in Biodiversity.
- Oversee contractor works for the delivery of a range of natural area restoration and

biodiversity projects including but not limited to weed control, restoration works,
revegetation and monitoring.
- Deliver a weed management program by using modern mapping technology.
- Provide technical advice to key stakeholders around biodiversity and conservation land

management.
- Support the Open Space Volunteer Coordinator in providing technical advice and on
- ground support for our Environmental Volunteers.
- Support the Biodiversity Coordinator to achieve Council’s revegetation targets across a

range of different sites including remnant native vegetation and urban biodiversity
reserves.
- Develop and maintain a native seed bank for use in Council projects, including collecting

local provenance native seed from City of Marion biodiversity reserves.
- Promote and deliver strong customer service to external clients and internal departments.
- Support the Biodiversity Coordinator to deliver projects, grants and unit programs.
- Provide quality customer service outcomes to internal and external stakeholders and

customers ensuring their concerns are heard and where reasonable addressed in line with
legislative standards, relevant guidelines and policies
- Liaise and maintain strong relationships and influence services with strategic partners and

external organisations.
- Contribute to the management of operational risk and implement risk management

processes within the business unit.

Local Government Association Workers Compensation Scheme (LGAWCS) and,

**Person Specification**
**Essential Requirements**
- Advanced communication skills both written and verbal.

**Qualifications**
- Obtained a degree in environmental management or similar field.***

**Skills, Knowledge & Experience**
- Strong level of Biodiversity and conservation land management knowledge and

experience.***
- Strong native and weed plant identification skills.***
- Seed collecting and cleaning skills.***
- Experience in revegetation and natural regeneration projects.***
- Understanding of urban ecology principles.***
