**Why your role matters**

Stats Central is a team of eight statisticians offering UNSW researchers support and training in study design and analysis, as part of the university’s 2025 Strategy.

The Statistical Consultants contribute to the main objective of Stats Central, to build the statistical capacity of UNSW researchers and research students, by: advising on or leading study design, analysis and communication of results; developing and running regular professional development workshops and seminars; and building and maintaining strong relationships to facilitate interdisciplinary research.

These roles support research across the university but will also involve offering dedicated support to the Centre for Childhood Cancer Research or the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre.

Stats Central is based in the Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre in the Division of Research and Enterprise, a centralised unit that manages major research infrastructure at UNSW and provides relevant technical and consulting expertise.

**About you**

**Level A**
- A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
- Proven experience with design and analysis of clinical trials, and advanced statistical techniques common in health and behavioural research, such as multi-level and hierarchical modelling, generalised linear mixed models, survival analysis, time series, data imputation methods and meta-analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to meet project requirements and deadlines, at a high level with mínimal supervision.
- Proven ability to work effectively as a member of a team, and the capacity for independent decision-making using initiative.
- Capacity to establish and manage consultative, productive relationships with researchers from different backgrounds and to communicate statistical concepts clearly to non-statisticians.
- Ability to provide effective statistical mentoring to research staff and students.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training

**Level B (in addition to Level A criteria above)**
- Proven ability and experience in working in a statistical consulting role, reviewing research grants and journal articles.
- Experience leading statistical planning and analysis of clinical trials.
- Demonstrated ability to provide independent scientific and statistical leadership, and the capacity to review research proposals critically.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively instruct applied researchers on statistical techniques in a short course setting and develop materials for short courses.
- A strong inter-disciplinary publication record including publications in statistical methodology journals.
