We are seeking a **Principal Biofuels **to provide highly specialised and senior support to the Procurement division. This role will be critical in contributing to an energy portfolio that supports Rio Tinto’s ambitious decarbonisation mandate.

The core function of this role is to support the development and execution of an integrated biofuels strategy and project management of key initiatives. These initiatives are expected to play a key role in Rio Tinto’s decarbonisation ambition.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Global Energy, the role interfaces with a broad range of stakeholders within both Rio Tinto Procurement and other operating business units. The role will involve engaging a diverse network of stakeholders including operations managers, climate teams while interfacing with external partners and market participants.

Working in a global, collaborative community within the Rio Tinto Procurement division, you will be responsible to execute the global procurement strategy for biofuels:

- ** Project Management**: Responsible for strategy development, business intelligence, and managing complex projects through to execution
- ** Subject matter expertise**: You will bring the tools necessary to build expertise in biofuels; this could include a background in biology, organic chemistry, agronomy, or related field
- ** Relationships**: You will be responsible for building highly functioning internal relationships by deploying business partnering principles to improve customer centricity, while also partnering with strategic suppliers to optimise value delivery and innovation
- ** Safety**: Embedding a holistic and robust approach to safety, security, risk, change and project management across your assigned portfolio. A demonstrated commitment towards embedding HSEC values and principals.
- ** Governance**: Ensuring initiatives are implemented in accordance with Rio Tinto's governance requirements.
- ** Global**:This is a global role and coordinating with geographically dispersed teams to achieve outcomes will be critical.
- ** Market Engagement**: You will have a strong interest in commerce and be well positioned to become a _Subject Matter Expert_ in various Biofuels markets. You understand the commercial drivers and levers necessary to build economic value.

**What you’ll bring**

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has a background in biology, organic chemistry or agronomy and who believes strongly in impeccable ESG. A commercial mindset and strategic acumen, together with solid influencing and communication skills are also key attributes.

To be successfully considered for this role you’ll bring:

- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- A passion for sustainability and knowledge of renewables markets
- A solid understanding of plant biology, organic chemistry, agronomy, or biofuels, with emphasis on commercial, supply chain, procurement and/or technical aspects
- Project management experience, including problem solving and analytical skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- An understanding of business process improvement and change management desirable
- Advanced skills with the Windows environment, including use of the MS Office suite of products and ideally SAP or an equivalent ERP
- Tertiary qualifications in science / biology / technical / business or a related discipline are highly desirable
