Our team at the Adelaide Aquatic Centre are always on the lookout for new talent to join the lifeguard team on a casual basis.
In this role, your primary focus is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of patrons whilst in the Aquatic Centre, including providing first aid and resuscitation when necessary. You will have a clear understanding and ability to deliver excellent customer service, and will perform a range of other tasks including general cleaning as required.

**Our ideal Lifeguard**
Being a great lifeguard is not about having the most rescues under your belt, rather it is about being proactive and preventing risk and harm before it happens. We are looking for both new and experienced lifeguards to help us provide a safe and fun environment for the members of our community.
We are looking for someone with an adaptable customer service manner, who is able to educate the public about water safety, and be a friendly face that our patrons of all ages and backgrounds feel safely approaching when in need of assistance.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Be 16 years of age or over
- Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to effectively liaise and engage with a diverse range of customers
- A Pool Lifeguard Award
- A Senior First Aid Certificate
- Experience in an aquatic environment is desirable however, we also encourage new pool lifeguards to apply

- Being a swimmer, I wanted to work in an environment I was familiar with. The hours are flexible and worked well with uni. The pay for a casual lifeguard is also better than almost any other casual job being a full-time student. I enjoy helping and educating people about how to stay safe around water. There is a low chance I will ever be put in a situation again where someone's life is in my handsso it's an extremely important learning opportunity that you can't really find anywhere else. Also, if I ever join the fire brigade, my hosing skills will be elite (20yo, 3 years lifeguarding at the Adelaide Aquatic Centre)
- I was attracted to this role as some of my friends from swimming work as lifeguards. I like learning lots of new skills that will help me later on in the future. My communication skills are developing a lot as I have to communicate with coworkers and patrons at the pool. (16yo, 2 months lifeguarding at the Adelaide Aquatic Centre)
- I lifeguard as it means I get to be around something I'm passionate about and as a migrant, also provides me with an opportunity to give back to the community. Lifeguarding is much more than just watching people, it's being able to ensure that everyone has a good time, while allowing patrons to safely experience the beauty the aquatics industry has to offer. Customer service in lifeguarding is about being able to read people, communicate effectively, while being proactive and preventing harm, and education. As I've moved on to my full-time career (and lifeguard on weekends), these skills I've learnt growing up with my Aquatic Centre family have helped me be the person I'm proud of today. **Schedule**
- Weekdays: Shifts between 5.30am - 10.30pm available
- Weekends: Shifts between 6.30am - 10.30pm available
- Centre operates 364 days a year

The Adelaide Aquatic Centre, operated by City of Adelaide, offers a wide range of facilities for the community including a fitness centre, recreational and dive pools, sauna, steam room, swim shop and a café.
