**Division Responsibilities**

The Office for Sport (OfS) promotes improved opportunities for community participation in

sport and physical activity as well excellence in high-performance sport through investment

in programs and infrastructure, coordination of Commonwealth involvement in major

sporting events, and international cooperation on sport issues.

The OfS supports a wide range of Government policy objectives through sport including

improved health and wellbeing, diplomacy, social inclusion, trade and tourism,

high performance sport outcomes, and economic recovery. The Division comprises

two branches: Policy and Programs Branch and Major Events Branch.

**Branch Responsibilities**

The Policy and Programs Branch provides advice across the breadth of sport issues including

new policy development and implementation, management of grant programs,

appointments and portfolio coordination.

**Section Responsibilities**

**The Sport Horizon Section** is responsible for the development of a new National Sport Plan,

as announced in the 2023-24 Budget, which will be a critical foundational element for

supporting sport through to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The section

will lead the development of the new National Sport Plan which includes significant

structured consultation across the sport ecosystem including with states and territories.

**The Policy Section** is responsible for delivering sport policy and will work closely with the

Sport Horizon Section to deliver the new National Sport Plan as a priority. It is also

responsible for supporting the executive and Minister’s Office through briefing and advice,

Budget and MYEFO coordination, international Memoranda of Understanding and

international travel for the Minister, responses to sport related inquiries, strategic policy for

population groups as well as coordinating meetings of state and territory Sport Ministers.

**The Portfolio Support Section** is responsible for engagement with the National Sports

Tribunal and sport portfolio entities including the Australian Sports Commission, Sport

Integrity Australia and the Australian Sports Foundation to provide coordinated policy

advice. Key activities include stakeholder liaison and communication; preparing briefs on

governance, legislation and sport issues; managing significant government appointment

processes; corporate planning and reporting; knowledge management processes;
conducting procurement and managing projects.***

**Key Responsibilities**

The process will be used to fill vacancies in the follow sections of the Policy and Programs

Branch.

Sport Horizon Section positions:

- Lead the development and implementation of a new National Sports Plan.
- Provide leadership, support and advice to stakeholders and work with consultants to

undertake extensive consultation processes.
- Manage a consultant who will be supporting the development of the new National

Sport Plan and the associated consultation process.
- Undertake research and consolidate information relating to the development of a

new National Sports Plan.
- Provide sound, evidence-based policy advice.
- Prepare written communication including briefings, agenda papers, minutes and

correspondence for senior officials and ministers.

Policy Section position:

- Lead the development and implementation of sport policy in close consultation with

the Sport Horizon Section and with regard to broader policy considerations.
- Undertake research and consolidate information relating to sport.
- Provide sound, evidence-based policy advice.
- Prepare written communication including briefings, agenda papers, minutes and

correspondence for senior officials and ministers
