School Bus Driver

Position Overview:
We are seeking a responsible and safety-conscious School Bus Driver to join our Ardeer Primary School team. As a School Bus Driver, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and timely transportation of students to and from school and on occasion, on extracurricular activities such as our swimming program. Your primary responsibility will be to operate a school bus adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations while maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor with students, parents, and school staff.

Hours:
7:30am - 8:30am*

3:15pm - 4:30pm*

**Responsibilities**:
Safe Transportation: Safely operate a school bus, following all traffic laws and safety guidelines to transport students to and from school and other designated locations.

Route Familiarisation: Familiarize yourself with assigned routes and pick-up/drop-off locations to ensure efficient and timely transportation.

Vehicle Inspection: Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the school bus to ensure its mechanical soundness and report any maintenance issues to the transportation coordinator.

Student Safety: Maintain a secure and orderly environment inside the bus to ensure the safety and well-being of all students during transit.

Emergency Procedures: Be prepared to handle emergency situations, including evacuations, first aid response, and communication with emergency services when necessary.

Communication: Interact courteously and professionally with students, parents, and school staff, addressing any concerns or issues that may arise during transportation.

Documentation: Maintain accurate records of bus mileage, fuel consumption, and student ridership data.

Adherence to Policies: Comply with school and Department policies, transportation guidelines, and state/federal regulations governing school bus operation.

Continuous Improvement: Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance driving skills, safety knowledge, and student management techniques.

**Requirements**:
Valid Victorian Driver's License

Valid Working with Children’s Check or evidence that one is being processed

Responsible and Dependable: Show reliability, punctuality, and responsibility in performing assigned duties.

Excellent Communication: Possess effective communication skills to interact with students, parents, and staff in a professional and courteous manner.

Safety Awareness: Prioritise the safety and well-being of students and exercise sound judgment in various situations.

experience in commercial driving or as a school bus driver is preferred but not mandatory.

Working Conditions:
The School Bus Driver role involves working on school days with variable hours based on the school's schedule. Drivers may have early morning and afternoon shifts with additional hours during extracurricular events. The job requires spending prolonged periods sitting and occasional physical exertion in assisting students with boarding and alighting.
