**Intensive Care Unit**
**Ward Clerk - Permanent Part Time hours available**
**Commencing December 2024**

The Royal Melbourne Hospital, which is part of Melbourne Health, is a world-class teaching hospital and one of Victoria’s largest Trauma Centers. The Intensive Care Unit provides a supportive and exciting work environment. ICU consists of 42 beds; including Cardio-thoracic, Trauma, Neurosurgical and Medical-surgical patients. The Royal Melbourne Hospital also supports critically ill patients requiring admission from both The Royal Women’s hospital and the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre.
Permanent Part Time hours are available working a rotating roster including day shifts, evenings, weekends and public holidays within the Intensive Care Unit at The Royal Melbourne Hospital.
The Intensive Care Unit Ward Clerk is responsible for the clerical support to the ICU including maintaining patient medical records and general reception and clerical duties. The role also requires delivering a professional and caring customer focused service for patient’s and visitors to the ICU, as they are often the first point of contact. Ward Clerks work within the multidisciplinary team in the ICU, and closely with the NUM, Access Coordinator and Clinical Nurse Consultants, assisting in the coordination of patient admissions, discharges and transfers. This position also entails liaising with nursing, medical, support and ancillary staff, hospital departments, patients and their significant others and the public.
**Essential Criteria**:
- Highly developed customer service and interpersonal skills
- Concise written and verbal communication skills, including professional telephone manner
- Relevant clerical experience and administrative skills
- Basic computer skills, including accurate keyboard skills
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology
- Professional presentation and demeanour
- Demonstrated team player with an ability to work as a team member in a multidisciplinary environment
- An ability to accept direction
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to prioritise
- Motivation and commitment to ongoing development
- Able to work in a busy environment and under pressure at times
