Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community.
The Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Cadetship program offers opportunities for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples studying nursing and/or midwifery to consolidate the skills and knowledge developed through their tertiary studies and develop an understanding of the health system and the role of nurses and midwives within that system.
The purpose of this role is to provide nursing/midwifery team support and undertake nursing/midwifery care under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse/midwife to support consumer/person centred care.
Cadets are employed in a fixed term temporary position with a requirement to be engaged in full time tertiary studies necessary to acquire registration with the Australian Practitioner Health Regulatory Agency (Ahpra) and Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).
