**The opportunity**:
We seek an enthusiastic research assistant to join a research program led by Dr Jonathan Noonan and Prof Karlheinz Peter. We aim to understand how adaptive immune cells (particularly T cells) are activated and contribute to inflammation in the context of cardiovascular disease.

The Research Assistant will participate in studies utilising both novel and classical animal models of cardiovascular disease and immune responses, as well as the assessment of human biospecimens. you will support a diverse team of scientists, clinicians, research staff and students in the planning, administration, and completion of experiments.

Within this position, you will have the opportunity to specialise in techniques related to cellular and molecular biology/immunology.

**Key duties**:
In this role you will be expected to:

- Perform and/or assist with cellular and molecular biology techniques such as flow cytometry, PCR, and Immunoblotting.
- Perform and/or assist with preclinical animal models including experiment logistics, animal monitoring, injections, small-animal surgery and organ isolation.
- Perform and/or assist with single-cell genomics experiments.
- Data analysis, evaluation and presentation.
- Other duties as dictated by the research and as guided by the supervisors.
- Guidance of students in lab work.
- Coordinate, train, and aid group members, where relevant, in developing improved techniques or procedures.
- Assure compliance with quality and safety programs.
- Assist in coordinating the collection of human biospecimens.

**Skills and experience**:
You will have:

- Relevant Undergraduate degree with Honours, Masters, or equivalent research experience, preferably within the fields of immunology, inflammation or related disciplines.
- Understanding of Immunology and adaptive immunity.
- A high level of interpersonal skills, which enable the appointee to liaise effectively with a wide range of people at varied levels internally and externally to the institute.
- Experience with:

- preclinical mouse models for the study of immunology, cardiovascular and/or immune-mediated diseases
- animal handling and experimental skills, especially for intravenous and intraperitoneal injections
- flow cytometry
- molecular biology (e.g. PCR, vector design and cloning)
- immunofluorescent microscopy.
- Experience with (or understanding of) single-cell genomics.
- Previous work in immunological research.
