**Who are we?**:
We’re here to help people live well and create a better and more sustainable future. We support healthy and liveable communities by delivering water, sewerage and recycled water services to 1.77 million people who rely on us every day and every night. At South East Water, we innovate with purpose and act with care to deliver healthy water for life. Fresh thinking and collaboration are at the heart of our organisation. We are constantly learning, embracing the challenges of today and excited by the opportunities that tomorrow will bring.
**The role**:
The Damage Claims Officer plays a pivotal role in managing the Chargeable Works process, overseeing claims and dispute resolutions while enhancing asset protection and minimising third-party damages for South East Water. This position acts as a crucial liaison between various departments including Maintenance, Legal, Contact Centre, Finance, Accounts, Land Development, and Property Development. The incumbent is tasked with ensuring full cost recovery and enforcing contraventions as per the Water Act, compiling chargeable cases for legal action, and issuing invoices related to third-party works.
It's key that you can effectively analyse data to make informed decisions regarding damage claims. Additionally, the Damage Claims Officer facilitates communication with internal and external stakeholders, supports insurance and litigation processes, and provides guidance to enhance the efficiency of cost recovery procedures. This role requires collaboration with Accounts Receivable, Credit Management, Maintenance, Legal, Faults and Emergency Contact Centre, and Land Development teams to streamline operations and maintain strong relationships.
**Who are you?**:
You're a highly organised individual, capable of managing high volumes of work efficiently while maintaining meticulous attention to detail. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential, coupled with adept negotiation abilities to secure favourable outcomes for South East Water.
You demonstrate independence as well as strong teamwork skills, providing excellent customer service throughout interactions. With extensive experience in water and sewer network construction, operation, and maintenance, including a deep understanding of plumbing codes including MRWA and WSSA Standards, civil works, and relevant legislation such as the Water Act, you possess a keen aptitude for conflict management and resolution.
You exhibit a knack for quickly grasping and becoming proficient in relevant systems and IT platforms, along with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to stakeholders of varied backgrounds. Leadership qualities, initiative, and drive are valued, along with the ability to interpret technical information for billing processes. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is necessary for reporting and correspondence, and a proven track record of result-focused problem-solving and dispute resolution, as well as a commitment to workplace safety and inclusion, are highly desirable traits.
**What's in it for you?**:
- A competitive salary, starting at $89,021 plus superannuation.
- A commitment to work-life balance with truly flexible working arrangements, including hybrid working and leave purchasing.
- 15 weeks paid parental leave for all parents and paid super on unpaid parental leave.

- A great culture working in collaborative teams with strong work ethics.
- Career focused learning and development opportunities.
- The opportunity to be part of an organisation committed to environmental initiatives.
- Enjoy modern office facilities with panoramic beachfront views.
**We're for everyone**:
We do meaningful work, but how we do it is just as important. We’re here to help people live well, protect the environment, and keep healthy water and resources accessible and affordable for all. We know to make a positive difference we need to support our people to be their very best. Flexibility and innovation are at the heart of how we work. But it’s our people’s collective ambition, authenticity and differences that bring our culture to life.
Our people are as diverse as the communities we serve. Everyone brings a unique voice and a refreshing perspective that keeps us innovating. It makes us better learners, thinkers and collaborators, helping create better outcomes for our customers. Even though we’re all different, we still share a common goal to deliver healthy water for life.
