About us
The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention, preparedness and response services to fire in the built and landscape environments, as well as scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities. The QFD provides a multi-hazard emergency response, including road crash rescue, bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue, severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and provides a number of functions supporting community safety outcomes.
The department encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR), Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ), as well as the broader department which work together to pre-empt, prevent, mitigate and manage the consequences of fires and other emergencies on Queensland communities and support our large volunteer membership across the state.
The QFD is an organisation that is focused on reframing the department's relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and organisations through the Path to Treaty, Closing the Gap and building our cultural capability.
Purpose of the role
Cabinet, Executive and Ministerial Services provides support to the Office of the Minister for Fire and Commissioner, QFD through the provision of machinery of government support services and ensuring relevant documentation, correspondence and briefing material is provided in an effective and efficient manner. It provides senior liaison services on behalf of QFD, through the ministerial, cabinet legislation and liaison, and departmental liaison roles, as well as coordinating the ministerial and executive correspondence function for the department.
Reporting to the Director, you will be responsible for a variety of activities and programs and work across the branch, through leading and managing the system administration and contract management for the department's correspondence and workflow management system, including the development and delivery of associated training programs and materials. You will also lead and manage the delivery of the annual Estimates Committee Hearing process and coordination activities, including being responsible for departmental reference material such as guidelines, handbooks and procedures (e.g. Style Guide, Protocol Handbook) to ensure consistency and accuracy in protocol adopted by the department.

Your key accountabilities
Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting key frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:
- Proactively plan, manage and support the development of programs, projects and work streams to ensure activities and initiatives are managed and prepared in line with organisational and government priorities.
- Lead the development, implementation and delivery of training packages and tailored face to face training in relation to correspondence management systems, guidelines and requirements.
- Lead and manage the QFD Estimates preparation process through analysis, design and implementation of best practice approaches in policy, coordination and procedure.
- Prepare and review complex reports, briefing notes, submissions, departmental and other correspondence in accordance with requirements and governance.
- Provide guidance and support to departmental staff in relation to QFD style guidelines and protocol, including liaising with other required government agencies to ensure consistency and accuracy in protocol adopted by the department.
- Build, liaise and maintain effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers, to negotiate agreed outcomes and promote best practice on behalf of the department.
- Lead the identification of potential risks and issues, and develop innovative strategies and solutions that support quality business outcomes and ensure the effectiveness in the way programs are delivered.
