There are currently 70+ of us working as researchers, strategists, designers, technologists and producers towards our mission from our head office in Collingwood, and remotely from co-working spaces and homes in every state and territory in Australia. Our Design Services team is made up of over a dozen multidisciplinary human centred designers and producers who work to understand and define the needs of people and organisations and bring them through a design process towards solutions that make a real difference.

A Communication Designer who creates beautiful visual artefacts that tell compelling stories to our clients, co-design partners and the people who'll benefit from our work. Maybe you've been working in commercially-focussed roles as a graphic designer creating marketing and brand-related outputs, but are wanting to redirect your talents towards more meaningful work. This is your opportunity to use your skills to work on bigger, better problems that make a real impact for people.

You're a collaborator and a translator; someone who can work with researchers, strategists and clients to develop strong visual ideas and concepts that solve a wide range of communication challenges. You love the creative challenge of concisely communicating complex concepts into clear and simple visuals.

You'll be comfortable in research interviews and workshops, co-facilitating, observing and taking notes alongside seasoned practitioners who are leading that process. You'll confidently ask the questions you need of clients and collaborators to create your own brief for the visual outputs you'll be creating.

You have an intuitive eye for colour, typography, shape and layout and an adaptable visual style that works for multiple contexts and audiences.

You understand design as a process much broader and deeper than making things look good and have a strong foundation in a design process and mindsets. You approach design as a problem-solving process of discovery and creativity, and place _outcomes_ (the things that change as a result of our work) in a higher priority than outputs.

**Some of the artefacts you'll be creating each week**:

- Digital and print visuals to solve client briefs
- Reports and presentations
- Visual frameworks and conceptual models
- Data visualisations and infographics
- Personas, journey maps and service blueprints
- Storyboards and illustrations
- Brand identities (logos, style guides, etc.)
- Portable brand and marketing materials
- UX wireframes and conceptual mock-ups of digital products

**You'll be expected to have knowledge and experience in these areas**:

- A working knowledge of the principles of human centred design and design thinking
- Experience creating effective visual designs for a diversity of organisations and audiences
- Expertise creating visuals and communications using tools like Figma and the Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, etc.)
- Experience collaborating with other skilled practitioners or experts to develop ideas and concepts
- Experience translating research, data or complex information into simple, clear communications
- Strong written and verbal communication that tells compelling stories
- Experience designing communications for the end user / audience

**Expertise you may have that would bring added value to this role**:

- Illustration
- Animation and motion design
- Video production and editing
- Marketing and brand strategy
- Knowledge of and interest in social issues (e.g. mental health, family violence) and underserved groups (e.g. people with a disability, people with english as a second language).
- UX and UI design
