Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated knowledge or the ability to acquire knowledge of the importance of standard precautions in dealing with patients and biological specimens.
- Proven ability to follow instructions and work conscientiously and accurately with mínimal supervision after careful instruction.
- Proven ability to work effectively as a member of a team and to communicate effectively with clients, clinical staff and colleagues
- Positive focus upon patient care within a hospital health care environment.
- Demonstrate a high level of commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement.
- Demonstrate data entry skills with the ability to work accurately and give attention to detail.
- Experience in or the ability to rapidly learn pre-analytical process in a large and complex specimen reception unit
Qualifications, registrations and other requirements
- Nil mandatory qualifications.
- While not mandatory, a Certificate in Pathology (Specimen Collection) or equivalent would be well regarded.
- Contemporary computer skills required for Data Entry, Excel and Word would be highly regarded.
- The successful applicant may be required to work shifts at the Redcliffe, The Prince Charles Hospital or Caboolture Pathology Queensland laboratories.
- Phlebotomists may be required to undertake Central Specimen Reception (CSR) training and work shifts in CSR as required.

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements
- It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
- Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies may also be required for this position.
