SAHSSI is a not-for-profit specialist domestic violence and homelessness service in the Illawarra / Shoalhaven. We support women, men and children who are at risk of domestic violence and homelessness to recover, reduce their trauma, increase their safety, and build their capacity to thrive in the community.

We provide trauma informed, person centred, strengths and evidence-based care.

SAHSSI is currently recruiting for the following positions:
1. Family Counsellor - Nowra

Working from our Homeless Hub in Nowra, this role is dedicated to supporting children who are vulnerable and have been impacted by domestic and family violence. The role works with the family to support recover and repair with the aim of improving outcomes for the child.

This is a Part-time position 28 hours per week (Tues - Friday). Fixed term contract to 30th June 2025. (note: we expect funding for this contract to be extended for 5 years and when this happens, the employee contract will be extended).

1. Cover letter

Skills and Experience:

- Prior experience in working therapeutically with survivors of trauma, domestic and family violence (DFV), children and families
- Tertiary qualifications in psychology or counselling (minimum diploma of counselling) with counselling experience. Registration with the ACA or the willingness to complete registration during employment
- Strong communication, interpersonal and advocacy skills
- Ability to use an integrated, trauma-informed and strengths-based approach to achieve client outcomes, and manage crisis situations
- Sensitivity and respect for diversity and difference in both service users and colleagues Demonstrated professionalism including effective time management, taking personal responsibility, creativity and problem-solving capabilities and ability to work within an ethical and organisational policy framework.
- Current Working with Children Check and National Police Check
- NSW driver’s license and sound driving record

Pay: $1,443.98 - $1,612.35 per week
