The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is currently recruiting for casual Discovery Rangers to work in the Hunter Central Coast.
- This is an Aboriginal Identified role_ where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act (1977)._ Preference will be given to Aboriginal people with a cultural association to the local area.

**About the role**

As a Discovery Ranger you will develop and implement diverse activities and learning experiences for visitors to the State’s national parks and reserves to foster community awareness, appreciation and understanding for conserving the state’s natural and cultural heritage, and the role of the Planning & Environment and the National Parks and Wildlife Service, as part of a statewide coordinated education program.

**About the Branch**

The Hunter Central Coast Branch manages 136 parks and reserves that are home to unique plants, animals, and rich in historic and Aboriginal cultural heritage. Our parks and reserves include internationally significant sites such as the Gondwana Rainforests World Heritage Area, Ramsar listed wetlands and the Aboriginal-owned Worimi Conservation Lands.

Over 8.3 million people annually visit the national parks of this region. We manage over 40 campgrounds and maintain more than 3,100 km of roads and trails. Highlight visitor attractions include Tomaree National Park, Mountain Maid Gold Mine at Copeland Tops State Conservation Area, Glenrock State Conservation Area and Bouddi National Park.

**About You**

The successful applicant will be energetic, passionate about the environment and a solid team player. You will demonstrate excellent customer service skills and be comfortable presenting information to a range of audiences. It is desirable you have experience in either environmental education or tour guiding.

**Essential Requirements**
- This is an identified role under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and as such Aboriginality is an essential requirement of the role. Aboriginal identified positions are developed where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act (1977) for Aboriginal people who meet the following criteria:

- is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and
- identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and
- is accepted as such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
- A current Working with Children Check (WWCC) is an essential requirement for this role. The role has been identified as requiring this check in line with the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012.
- First Aid Certificate and Current Australian Drivers Licence, or willingness to obtain.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including week-days, weekends, public holidays and school holidays
- Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering interpretative guiding and/or educational programs to students or groups.
- Knowledge of local Aboriginal culture and awareness of other values of the local area.
- Sound understanding of Risk Management, Minimal Impact and Bush Safety principles in relation to guided tours in a cultural or field setting.
