**About the Section**:
The Intelligence and Assessment Section provides several enabling functions including a centralised intelligence and assessment functions to support scheme administration and entry, and compliance and enforcement actions. It is a dynamic area, with opportunity for collaboration and exploration of the strategic environment. There is a strong culture of professional development and exposure to work areas across the agency, including direct engagement with senior management.
- The intelligence function comprises the collection and analysis of information that aims to detect non-compliance and support the tactical, operational, and strategic decision making of the agency.
- The preliminary assessment function undertakes an intelligence and assessment triage function for all complaints, referrals, tip offs and information and data requests that are received by the Compliance Branch.

**Role responsibilities and duties**:
**General duties for all positions**

Under direction, Intelligence Officers will be responsible for:

- Undertaking research and analysis, using multiple information sources, both qualitative and quantitative.
- Preparing intelligence reports and briefing material and communicate findings in various formats to inform agency compliance or enforcement activities and risk management.
- Developing and maintaining internal and external relationships and responding to stakeholder needs and expectations.
- Maintaining a well-developed understanding of relevant legislation, policy frameworks and operational procedures.
- Contributing to the setting of the direction of work priorities and practices, monitoring workflow, and contributing to business and process improvement for the section.
- Maintaining technical expertise in agency systems and data holdings.

**Intelligence Analyst [APS5]**

Under direction, the Intelligence Analyst will be responsible for:

- Performing moderately complex, to complex research and analysis and preparing intelligence reports and briefing material.
- Mentoring the intelligence support officers and supporting the assessment team on a rotational basis.
- Conducting quality assurance activities for the outputs of other staff in the section.

**Senior Intelligence Analyst [APS6]**

Under direction, the Senior Intelligence Analyst will be responsible for:

- Performing research and analysis involving complex or escalated issues.
- Preparing and reviewing intelligence reports, briefing material, and providing constructive feedback to team members.
- Actively supervising and mentoring staff in accordance with the agency’s performance management approach.
- Building intelligence capability in a team environment through coaching others, providing performance feedback, conflict resolution and encouraging career development.
- Ensuring quality outputs, including that staff maintain an elevated level of specialist, professional and technical expertise.
- Designing and developing intelligence plans and activities and implementing work plans for the team including setting tasks and priorities, managing workflow, and allocating resources.
- Develop and maintain skills with the expectation to work across multiple functions of the section when required.

**Qualifications/experience**:

- Demonstrated experience in working in an intelligence team.
- Practical experience of intelligence analysis including preparing tactical, operational or strategic intelligence reports.
- A demonstrated ability to deliver high quality outputs, manage competing priorities and expectations.

The following experience will be highly regarded:

- Working in a regulatory compliance environment.
- Using databases and information reporting systems, in particular operating analytical tools and software packages such as IBM i2 products including, Analyst Notebook, iBase and iBridge, and MS Excel.
- Demonstrated collaboration skills and experience in developing and managing relationships with stakeholders.
- Working as a part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Understanding of the Australian government’s Protective Security Policy and Fraud Control Framework (rules, policy, and guidance).
- Experience, or the ability to acquire the skills, in data analysis.
- Tertiary qualifications, preferably in a research, Intelligence analysis-based discipline, or government administration.
